I know this isn't weird, but this 'Treasure Island' illustration by Mervyn Peake is so brilliant and so evocative of travelling into adventure, I'm going to tag it #WyrdWednesday anyway.#MervynPeake #illustration #artsky

Illustrated eBook cover for sale. Depicts a red dragon with green horns and eyes geaming in cold sunlight with its wing over an elf-man. Sunlight shows the patterns of its wing, and reflects on its curved horns, neck spikes, and long claws.

The elf man is pale, and has white, slightly curled short hair resting on his forehead and temples. The hair in a long braid that snakes down his shoulder to his exposed peck. The braid is tied with a silky white ribbon and it turns from white to pale red and finally turns entirely black at the end. His eyes are red, and his pointed ear is red and sunlight makes it look luminecent.
He is wearing green, buttoned trousers and nothing else. They are resting low on his hips. His abs are visible, as he holds the head of his dragon companion. He has tattoos all over his arms, around his navel, neck, decolte, and ear. He also has scars on his side, arm, and chest if you look closely. They have long since healed.

The background is of cold mountain ranges disappearing into a fog. The light is cold, and unyelding.

The yellow text overlays say:

inspired by a t-shirt myriam francois wore in a recent interview, i'm messing about with my own ideas for an illustration of the irrepressible francesca albanese. #wip #illustration #art #graphicDesign #francescaAlbanese #gaza #palestine

digital illustration of francesca albanese wearing large, black-framed specs.
francesca folds her arms resolutely & looks directly at the viewer.
illustration is black, white, subtle green & halftone red.
there are vertical rectangles behind her, one in black (on her right) & the other (on her left) in subtle green.

digital illustration of francesca albanese wearing large, black-framed specs.
in lowercase, black type (in two different fonts) reads: 'men don't make arses of girls who wear glasses'. the glasses themselves form the two middle Ss in the word 'glasses'.
francesca folds her arms resolutely & looks directly at the viewer.
illustration is black, white & shades of grey.

A small rocket ship blasts into the sky. It is surrounded by an atmosphere of heavy, brown clouds. The rocket ship itself is small and brown, with a white jet of flame shooting out beneath it that gradually turns into yellow smoke. There is one blazing green portal window in the side, through which a cat can be seen. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

This turned out to be one of the most complex designs I have drawn in a long time. Happy about how it turned out, and also, got an idea for an animated version…

Also the first Queen album I bought back in 1976.

#Queen #VectorArt #AffinityDesigner #Illustration #Vector

A vector drawing of the album cover for Queen's "A Day at the Races" from 1976. One red and one grey lion, both wearing crowns, are holding a big, ornamented light blue letter Q between them. In the middle of the Q, a royal crown is placed.

One fairy in pink sits in the grass to the left while another fairy in blue is watching her. Behind and above the Q, a red crab is engulfed in flames and a white'ish bird is spreading their wings over the top. The background is black, but with a blue/yellow circular motif behind the characters indicating a rising sun on a summer morning.

Band name and album title set in "Parfum" typeface below the design.

#art #history: 'do you want to live on your knees or die on your feet?'
kathleen cleaver (born #otd in 1945) would like an answer, please.
this revolutionary kick-activist law professor was one of the most prominent leaders in the black panther party &, when she returned from exile in algeria, kathleen earned a full scholarship from yale, where, in 1984, she graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of arts degree.

digital pencil & ink illustration i drew of radical activist & smarty pants, kathleen cleaver.
here, she appears sceptical & tired of everyone's shit, wearing, as she does, a look of retired insouciance.
kathleen's face is turned to her right & she looks off into the distance, her large, architectural earrings dangling chicly from her lobes.
colours are black & shades of muted peach.

#ScribesAndMakers 15. How's your creativity going? Is there anything you would like help with?

I'm liking the zero pressure approach. Making some changes, and rediscovering the rough edges of sketches. I've been "finishing" too much. Need to relearn that rough and dynamic doesn't always mean unfinished. I spent far too many hours trying to "finish" this, only to like the rough sketch a lot more. So, I'm embracing it.

A dark gray sky, under which is a deep, well-like hole stretching down to infinity. Sitting in a chair at the edge of the hole is a figure holding a fishing pole. Hanging from the pole, dangling far down into the hole, is a string with a bright, green, glowing object at the end of it. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

A cloudy, gray night. A machine is walking through the night: a metal machine the greenish color of tarnished copper, with two robotic legs, a rectangular body, and a lamp mounted in front. The body looks like a small outbuilding with a pointed roof and a single round window on the side, glowing greenish-yellow. On the rear of the machine is a clock key. The headlamp looks almost like a desk lamp: conical and pointed down, casting a fuzzy white beam on the grass below. Small particles are visible in the beam. The side of the machine is clearly metal, with a seam and bolts. Sitting in the window is the black silhouette of a cat. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

A hulking factory complex under heavy night clouds, an eerie radioactive glow throwing the blurry silhouettes of the smokestacks and buildings into sharp contrast. Small greenish lights are placed on the smokestacks and at a few points on the buildings. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

A small yellow path winds through a grassy meadow at night. The meadow is a blend of greens and yellows, speckled with small white and yellow flowers. The sky is a medium blue, with a large white crescent moon and stars. To the right of the path is a small yellow sign with the word "Exit" on it. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

A dark, grim space that shows a concrete floor and nothing else. In the middle of the concrete floor is a neatly drilled hole, like a manhole without a cover. A ladder protrudes from the darkness of the hole. Beyond, the room extends into darkness. Hanging from above is a glowing sign with white letters. While the glow is predominantly white, it ranges across a number of different colors: yellow, green, pink. The letters say "Open". The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".

A scene of darkness, dominated by a volcano-like structure in the center. The volcano is spitting a geyser of greenish-white light and smoke into the heavy greenish clouds. A small path and staircase, carved into the surrounding rock, leads to the volcano. Mounted on a plateau right off the path is a small building that suggests an outhouse. The painting is signed "Chris Silverman".
