I'm currently reading Transcription, by Ben Lerner, and so far, I'm impressed. I briefly confused the author with Ben Marcus. Ha! I get authors confused all the time. Anyway, *this* Ben wrote The Topeka School, which I thought was very good, and showed an excellent understanding of human behavior, especially regarding young people.

This novel won't appeal to everyone, but if you liked his earlier work, you're the right reader for it. Also, if you've been avoiding longer books, this one is only 130 pages.

And it touches me because the book begins with themes that have also influenced my life - women, health care and intelligence service. I won't say any more so as not to spoil anything ;)

I’m currently reading this graphic novel while enjoying a few days off before heading back to work, and I’m loving it! It’s a beautifully written story about two women and a cat on a road trip, blended with a touch of magical realism.

Yes, yes, I finally made it to my favorite graphic novel shop to pick up the book "Spent" by the fantastic Alison Bechdel.

Now just a cup of tea, and it’s time to start reading…

My Three Good Things Today

1. After having listened to the book 'A Gentleman in Moscow' audiobook at least 4 times, I finally ordered an actual physical copy and it arrived this morning! It will be our bedtime reading and I'm really looking forward to starting it (again).

2. After our 'professional' cat nail trimmer decided just to pack up her business and simply not turn up to her appointments, we have had to trim our own cats' claws, as nervous as we are about it. Zaz has thickened and curled dew claws that risk ingrowing and once we had to pay $65 to have a technician at the vet trim them. They loved her and said we'd be welcome to bring her back any time. (For $65? Ummm. No. Emergency only.) Ping Pong is really frantic about having hers done, as well, so it can be a fraught experience. But today's trim went quickly and smoothly. Hooray us! More power to our clippers!

3. We managed to get out for a 10km bike ride for about 45 minutes this afternoon and it was lovely. It barely rained at all and was cool and pleasant. A short ride, but enough to make us feel good. It's a kind of therapy.
