The street that my mum lives in is a one-way street, but wasn't marked as such on #Google Maps. This caused many drivers to drive the wrong way. I have tried to edit it on Google Maps (there is such functionality), but to no avail. No matter how often I submitted a change (with photos of street signs!), Google said "Sorry, we could not verify it".
Solution: Edit the street on #OpenStreetMap! A few months after I did this, Google seems to have stolen the data, as it regularly does, and now the street is correct in both datasets!

Android 端的 Fossify Calendar 和 Fossify Contacts（需配合一个叫做 DAVx5 的 App 辅助同步）
iOS/macOS 端的原生日历和联系人 App
体验：
如果不心疼 Fastmail 的订阅费 + 可以忍受 Android 端的 Fossify Calendar 比较古朴的设计，个人看来可以平替（Fossify Contacts 的设计倒还行）。
在服务端，Google Calendar 和 Contacts 可以导出的开放格式的日历和联系人文件，直接在 Fastmail 端导入即可。Fastmail 的日历似乎还支持和 Google Calendar 同步，不过我自己不用就是了。
Fastmail 的日历和联系人分别使用的是 CalDAV 和 CardDAV 协议，iOS/macOS 端的原生日历和联系人 App 直接支持，开箱即用（甚至可以直接下载配置文件安装，不用输入账户密码）
但是 Android 原生不支持 CalDAV 和 CardDAV 协议，所以要使用 Fastmail 的日历和联系人的话，需要先安装一个叫做 DAVx5 的 App。这个 App 的作用是让你登陆 CalDAV 和 CardDAV 账号，并把它们在 Android 系统中伪装成 Android 系统原生支持的日历和联系人账号。两个星期使用下来，DAVx5 的同步算是及时，也没有丢过信息，虽然不是系统原生的同步方案但是应该能用。
通过 Obtainium（能从 GitHub 上安装和更新开源的 Android App 的 App，强烈推荐）安装好 DAVx5 后，在 DAVx5 中可以直接通过 OAuth 登陆 Fastmail 账号（不需要手动输入服务器参数），之后可以在 DAVx5 中配置同步参数，例如同步频率，同步多少内容。配置完成后，你便可以通过 Obtainium 安装 Fossify Calendar 和 Contacts，在这两个 App 的初始配置界面就能找到你刚刚配置好的 Fastmail 日历和联系人账号了。事实上，任何使用 Android 原生账号管理系统的日历和联系人 App 都可以通过 DAVx5 使用 Fastmail 的日历和联系人账号（甚至可以用 Google Calendar 和 Contacts 的 App，虽然个人不推荐），推荐 Fossify 的这两件套是因为它们是现阶段正在被积极维护的开源 App，和闭源/商业 App 相比相对不容易变质/变烂。

"Sideloading" is the rentseeker word for "being able to run software of your choosing on a computing device you purchased". There is no reasonable case for an operating system developer having a say over what programs you run on your hardware.
Google will become the gatekeeper of Android apps if this is implemented.
Just got a #Google popup informing me that the login page will soon change for a more modern "updated look and feel". And the "feel" I'm getting is one of dread, because, really, how much of modern updated look and feel does a login page need?

在服务端，Fastmail 在注册之后会有一个支持 Gmail 的导入向导。导入向导能把所有的历史 Gmail 邮件导入到 Fastmail 账号中（并且能搜索所有的 Gmail 历史邮件），而且能把新来的 Gmail 邮件同步到 Fastmail 账号中（并且以上功能均支持多个 Gmail 账号）。服务端目前唯一的缺陷是，个别服务的验证码邮件从 Gmail 转发到 Fastmail 的速度会慢几个小时，个人的补救措施则是检查 Gmail 网页端 + 短期内定期检查 Gmail 网页端有没有遗漏的新邮件 + 以后注册新服务一律使用 Fastmail（并且使用 1Password 和 Fastmail 联动的 Masked email 功能）
在 Android 端，K-9 Mail 的配置十分方便（通过 Fastmail 的 OAuth 登陆，不用手填邮件服务器的参数），而且 K-9 Mail 是一个在 GitHub 上的开源 App，可以从 GitHub（而不是 Play Store）上直接下载 apk 安装（个人推荐一个叫做 Obtainium 的 App，能很便捷地从 GitHub 上安装和更新开源的 Android App）

The truth about the change in #YouTube view counts
I've gotten questions about this so let me tell ya what I think is really going on. YouTube announced that the public view counts displayed on all videos will now increment if someone so much as views a single subsecond frame of video, instead of the (never made public) algorithm used to determine true viewers not extremely brief or robot-triggered "touching" of a video that really shouldn't count as genuine views. The implication is that this is to match the behavior of other competing video platforms.
The upshot of this will be a big boost to many creators' public view numbers, encouraging the creation of ever more automated AI Slop.
But here's the thing. This ONLY applies to those public view counts. Google/YouTube says explicitly that this is to give creators inflated numbers to impress potential sponsors. Now comes the fun part. #Google isn't going to use these "fake" inflated numbers internally for any purposes related to monetization or YouTube privilege levels or the like. All of that will still be based on what YouTube calls "Engaged
Views" -- which apparently will be using the same secret algorithm as before. Creators will be able to see both numbers -- the inflated public views, and the actually meaningful engaged views. But the public cannot see the engaged views.
In other words boys and girls, it's essentially a fake. There's no other way to put it. And a rather cruel one too, because many creators won't realize what's going on right away, and will see the inflated public view numbers and get excited, when in reality it's all just YouTube playing with the numbers to count "views" that really aren't views at all.

Google Authenticator still syncs two-factor authentication secrets without E2EE. If you enable cloud syncing, this means:

叠甲 1：如果你有和我不同的意见（大到公司的道德和开源的道德，小到技术细节和替代品是否好用），那你就是对的。我只记录这个过程，不会回应你的任何意见。
叠甲 2：如果你在非大陆生活，这将会是一个极其折腾过程，而且最终的用户体验也不一定会比使用谷歌服务好。如果你不爱折腾开源 App 和服务器之类的，或者无法忍受次等的用户体验，那这个过程大概率不适合你。
为什么：
谷歌将从 2026 年开始要求非 Play Store 的开发者认证身份，不然他们的 app 将无法在装有 Play Services 的 Android 手机上安装 https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/08/google-will-block-sideloading-of-unverified-android-apps-starting-next-year/ 这个举措从应用层面上将绝大部分的 Android 设备变成了 iOS 一样的封闭花园。
本来对谷歌这个公司的观感就很差了，这个新闻则成为了压死骆驼的最后一根稻草。作为对于谷歌的抵制，我决定将它从我的电子生活中踢走。
原则：
减少或者消灭作为用户对于谷歌的数据贡献
在服务端，使用支持开放协议的服务
在客户端（特别是 Android），使用开源 App
以上原则均不强求。虽然恨谷歌，但如果折腾的程度影响到了生活，那还是以生活为重（预告：我说的就是 Google Maps）

体验：
如果不心疼 Fastmail 的订阅费 + 可以忍受 Android 端的 K-9 Mail 比较古朴的设计，个人看来可以平替。
在服务端，Fastmail 在注册之后会有一个支持 Gmail 的导入向导。导入向导能把所有的历史 Gmail 邮件导入到 Fastmail 账号中（并且能搜索所有的 Gmail 历史邮件），而且能把新来的 Gmail 邮件同步到 Fastmail 账号中（并且以上功能均支持多个 Gmail 账号）。服务端目前唯一的缺陷是，个别服务的验证码邮件从 Gmail 转发到 Fastmail 的速度会慢几个小时，个人的补救措施则是检查 Gmail 网页端 + 短期内定期检查 Gmail 网页端有没有遗漏的新邮件 + 以后注册新服务一律使用 Fastmail（并且使用 1Password 和 Fastmail 联动的 Masked email 功能）
在 Android 端，K-9 Mail 的配置十分方便（通过 Fastmail 的 OAuth 登陆，不用手填邮件服务器的参数），而且 K-9 Mail 是一个在 GitHub 上的开源 App，可以从 GitHub（而不是 Play Store）上直接下载 apk 安装（个人推荐一个叫做 Obtainium 的 App，能很便捷地从 GitHub 上安装和更新开源的 Android App）
iOS/macOS 端的原生邮件 App 就没什么可说的了，配置和使用也十分方便（甚至可以直接下载配置文件安装，不用输入账户密码）
