A nice charity bookshop find today. I stumbled on this first edition hardback of Norrie Bissell’s great wee collection of poems, Slate, Sea and Sky: A Journey from Glasgow to the Isle of Luing (Luath Press, 2007). As well as Norrie’s wonderful poetry, the book also has a vivid array of photographs by the late Oscar Marzaroli.

A new documentary at Sundance Film Festival shows a community coming together to stop immigration officials snatching their neighbors. But it wasn't shot in Minneapolis or Chicago. "Everybody To Kenmure Street" tells the story of a "dawn raid" in Pollokshields, Glasgow, in May 2021, where Home Office agents attempted to detain two Indian Sikhs who had been in the country for a decade. Whenever I see the three doors in a row on W.M. Whyte's 1885 tenements on Queen's Drive in Glasgow, I'm always reminded of the Monty Hall Problem. Based on the US game show Let's Make a Deal, this problem shows how poor the intuitive human understanding of probabilities actually is.
