I gasped when I saw this

the exposed roots of a large maple tree on the side of a stream bank. Water can be seen under the roots. Several large orange mushrooms are blossoming out of the roots.

The same large maple tree but from further back. You can see more of the forest and more of the exposed roots on the side of the stream. The trunk is covered in thick moss and there are a few smaller tree trunks growing close by. The large orange mushrooms are still visible emerging from the overhanging roots.

A close up of two of the large orange mushrooms near the base of the tree trunk. The ground is mossy beneath the mushrooms. These may be jack o lantern mushrooms but I have no idea honestly.

A closeup of some of the mushrooms emerging from the exposed tree roots. They resemble dwellings built on cliff sides the way they emerge out of the side of the roots.

Found the most #fungal tree I've ever seen earlier this week - look how COOL it is! Like something in a fairytale.

Highlight of my walk. Cheers friends.

A dead tree stands perhaps 12 feet tall, covered in moss and bright orange mushrooms.

A closer look at the top of the tree, showcasing perhaps fifty mushrooms.

The side of the same tree, where about twenty mushrooms can be seen growing from the shaggy mossy bark.

An upward angle from the base of the tree, looking up at all the neat little layered caps.
