A colony of unknown mushrooms grows on a hollow log transformed into a spring fountain in the German Black Forest

A hollow log was put horizontally as a spout for a natural spring in the forest, the water cascades out of it in a thin drizzle. The log is covered with a colony of brown-gold colored mushrooms with a flat cap. On both sides of the spring, the ground is covered in lush vegetation

Common names for this mushroom include “Apricot Jelly” and “Salmon Salad,” but I always think of those wax bottle candies and those ridiculous wax candy lips I had as a kid.

Top down view of a light orange, salmon colored mushroom. It resembles a squished shamrock in that it has three wavy heart-shaped (though that’s a real stretch) lobes spreading out. In its center is a powdery white tube that acts as a stem. The entire mushroom is approximately 3 1/2 inches across. The mushroom is on the forest floor with nearby leaves and pine needles.

There's an ethereal mushroom in there amongst the bokeh and dewdrops.

Ground level view on a hazy morning, with the low sun visible but pale through some trees, and blades of grass dotted with dew, and a single mushroom. It has a long thin stem and an umbrella-like flat top. The gills are translucent. It looks like a pleated gray silk skirt.

A somewhat round, leathery mushroom that sort of resembles a potato is in a large expanse of bright green moss. The earthball is tan with cracked markings and has a nickel sized tear on its top exposing the inside black spores of the fungus.

This photo was taken 5 ½ months after the initial photo in this series. It shows the trunk of a hemlock tree with 6 plate like mushrooms growing out of the bark, some at eye level, some knee and ankle level. They are dark maroon and tan, cracked and slightly droopy, their attachment points weakened on the tree. At the base of the tree are autumn leaves and bright green moss.

Late afternoon Friday dog walk and spotted what looked like the yellow of dying moss on a log deep in the woods. “Wonder what's killing it?” I thought, walking by. Curiosity won out, I scrabbled through the brush and found the truth.
