My #gpn24 talk is live: User-centric #productmanagement in #OpenSource. Enjoy!
I prepared the talk with PM beginners, solo #foss devs, small FOSS teams in mind. Based on examples from @openproject.
I was impressed to see so many people in the audience & did not expect at all that we will have a discussion with the audience for almost an hour after the talk. Thanks for all the questions!
In case you would like to have a chat at #gpn24, feel free to ping me

mlisp alpha is out: packages for Linux, FreeBSD, and NetBSD.
A mailing list manager where the Maildir is the database. No separate
state to drift out of sync, the archive is the audit trail. CAN-SPAM,
GDPR, and CASL compliance are test-covered code paths, not a checklist
bolted on after the fact.

🎉 Another milestone reached: my first contribution to @Mastodon has been merged into main!
I noticed the Service Worker was broken on 4.6.0-rc.1 and recent nightlies - its code chunks were requested from the site root and returned 404, so the worker never installed. That means no push notifications and no offline cache.
On my own instance I had been keeping it alive with some hacky Dockerfile symlinks. 😅
Now there's a proper fix: a small Vite plugin that rewrites the chunk paths at build time.
Admins on 4.6-rc.1 / nightly: the fix is on its way - your Service Worker will come back to life in the next build.

This is the kind of dumb assessment bred by the #BuyEuropean narrative:
The #DigitalMarketsAct led to the #Mozilla #Firefox browser to gain 6 million EU users and we whine about it not being "European."
And no need to reply how terrible Mozilla's decision often are, I'm aware. But they currently maintain the only reasonably successful alternative engine to #BigTech and it's #FOSS. Of course this should be celebrated.

I think the most important question is: why does anyone comply with what one incurious, self-centered, and self-important man, Linus Torvalds, says?
Why is that most important? Because Linux does not belong to Linus Torvalds. It belongs to the world. Torvalds only gets to dictate if the people who are best-positioned to take that power from him fail to do so. From where I sit (as an outsider), he should have been removed from the project, or at least have his dictatorial power removed, long ago, and the primary problem is that there is no structure or will to actually do that.
Under these conditions Linux is a hierarchical, and therefore right-wing, project. The project allows a single man to dictate the future evolution of a global good. Let's drop the illusion that it is "free" or "open" till that changes.

Pareri in merito? Dovrei considerare altro? Avete suggerimenti?
Eviterei soluzioni tutto in uno come #Nextcloud, che installerei comunque ma a parte, per compartimentare meglio e avere un servizio dedicato ad ogni scopo.

My first Outline contribution shipped yesterday in v1.9.0: CloudFront support for signed attachment URLs (PR #12656).
I wrote it months ago to solve my own problem, the PR got merged, and then life happened and I stopped checking. Yesterday I opened the release notes and there it was, my handle under "New Contributors".
Small patch. Still counts. That's kind of the whole point of open source.

At the core of #AndroidDeveloperVerification are a couple potentially useful ideas. #Google has entirely wrapped them in a pile of anti-competitive garbage designed to defend their massive #monopoly profit margins, but nonetheless, those specific technical ideas might still be useful. #iOS's "notarization" is basically the same. That leads me to ask the key question:
What would a #FOSS-respecting system of #verification look like? What #identity info is useful for trusting the #developer?
