Ever find a spot while hiking where you wish you could just stay a while? This hill was that for me today. I found this trail on the second attempt to look for it by going to another trailhead and I’m really glad I went looking for it.

The afternoon sun here provided a nice backdrop on the hill and it was just gorgeous. Add in perfect weather for hiking and I had a really nice afternoon. I’ll post some more pics later.

We've spotted this cute Barred Owlet standing tall, showing off her legs high up in the moss-covered trees, as s/he perched on a thin branch, being vigilant and poised, one of her wings stretched out. Such a character it looked like having wool leggings on, made me smile.
It was not easy to notice this little fledgling, her feathers blended in with the natural environment so much, providing camouflage among the dense, Pacific Northwest forest setting at Beaver Lake Park, Washington state in May 2024.

He was totally, completely, and absolutely absorbed in the moment, so concentrated on the matter at hand, or in his hands, that he was in another world.

Was that a dragon over his head? Or simply an umbrella? Only he knew, but at this moment, it was of vital, incredible importance.

The path is relatively level -- the trail hasn't started seriously climbing yet -- so you can walk it relatively quickly.

But then again, why hurry? It's pleasant here in the midst of the trees. There's both sunlight and shadow, and the path itself is a bit mysterious, teasing you about where it wants to go.

This is a photo looking upward at the trajectory of a mature tree. It has a thick trunk with many branches curving outward and then upward. Most of the leaves are green, but the autumn colour change is evident as some of the leaves are just starting to turn red. Back lighting from the sky seems to illuminate the leaves as seen when standing on the forest floor.

This image is called Light in the Dark. It was taken after 'fog hunting' in #tasmania. and driving the backroads to get back to #hobart. I had noticed that the sun was piercing through plantation forest so I hopped out to see what I could find.

It took me a couple of years to release this image but it's since become a firm favorite. A gallery visitor described it as being the hope that no matter how dark life gets, that there will always be light.
