I just received Testflight invitation for @surf application. And discovered that VoiceOver, assistive tech for blind people, does not read anything. Just says "bottom sheet" twice, and the app's name, then NOTHING. I hope they fix this mess, because this all means cutting blind people off. There is something incredibly freeing about being able to like a post on Pixelfed without fear of screwing up your algorithm. I find myself just liking cool photos way more frequently now.

I'm a rare sports fan on #mastodon, cheering the #Packers, #DCU, #USMNT and #USWNT.

I'd like to take 2 seconds this morning and thank all the #commons janitors who do the ungrateful and unseen work of trying to increase #fedi's #cohesion and #culture.
#Janitors are #People who find it important to connect people. They spread bits of #information they find to other people for whom it may be useful. Usually in hopes that #attraction occurs between formerly unrelated parties, such as #stimulating a #collaboration between #fediverse projects.
Janitors *weave* #SocialFabric.. ✊
My brain is still struggling to unlearn the years of algorithmic social media. I had become fearful of “liking” anything or following anyone, because it would skew my timeline.
Goodness, Mastodon (and the Fediverse in general) is refreshing 😌
For the new kids joining Mastodon, let me share a common mistake I see with new users:
"Mastodon sucks. There is no timeline. It's like a tiny echo chamber here"
What's the mistake you ask? They invariably only follow a few dozen people.
This is what you need to understand about federated platforms like Mastodon: the server only pulls in data from people you follow! So, go out and follow some more people already.
You can also follow hashtags btw. This is great for getting more posts in your feed on subjects that interest you. Go and use hashtags in your own posts too of course.
Starting to feel like this 2025 Influx of users is much larger than 2022 Influx of users. New users come in huge waves. Many of them also seem to genuinely like Mastodon according to the feedback. In 2022 many tried, soon gave up and left to Bluesky or back to X. Today, many have even deleted their commercial accounts and settled here.
I like this new development of things. Seeing new faces and more cat photos bring me so much joy. Thanks for being here. Remember that you matter.

I like the idea of #Surf (the app, not the sport)
Unfortunately, all the feeds are very US-centric right now with no way to mute what I don't care about. So I guess I'll go back to try it when it has more functionalities, in priority the "I don't care about that feed, never show it to me again, please" button.
