<p>Migrated from <a href="https://activitypub.software/TransFem-org/Sharkey" rel="nofollow">Sharkey</a> to <a href="https://gotosocial.org/" rel="nofollow">GoToSocial</a>, because I wanted something more light-weight and less feature-rich (though I do have to say that Sharkey is excellent and has tons of features and control. I highly recommend it to somebody who really wants a lot from their Fediverse software). I probably sent out some unnecessary notifications by mistake while backloading my posts. Sorry about that.</p><p>I wrote <a href="https://forge.axfive.net/Taylor/migrate-sharkey-posts-to-mastodon" rel="nofollow">this python script</a> for doing the actual backloading. <p>Looking for Fediverse oddities!</p><p>I am super late, OVER THE DEADLINE to submit the slides of <a href="https://www.sfscon.it/talks/what-is-the-fediverse-defining-values-and-key-challenges/" rel="nofollow">my talk</a> at <a href="https://www.sfscon.it" rel="nofollow">SFSCON</a> 2025, but I still want to add a few little things, and I need tips.</p><p>My presentation ends by listing a few “crazy but true” things about the Fediverse.</p><p>Can you help me find a few more in the next couple hours?</p><p>So far I have:</p><p>Truth Social uses Mastodon and it was forced to open-source its code after it was discovered<br>Some public institutions host their own Fediverse instances!<br>You could host a Fediverse server in your living room<br>You can use a car’s on-board computer to power a Fediverse server<br>You can synchronize your personal calendar with federated calendars from the Fediverse (using <span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.cisti.org/@gancio" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>gancio</span></a></span>)<br>You can buy indie music by paying an artist directly (using <span class="h-card"><a href="https://clip.place/a/bandwagon/video-channels" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bandwagon</span></a></span>)<br>You can do academic peer-reviews via the Fediverse (using <span class="h-card"><a href="https://indieweb.social/@bonfire" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>bonfire</span></a></span>)</p><p>What else??? <p>If you're a Mastodon music lover, you may already know <span class="h-card"><a href="https://musician.social/@elsemusic" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>elsemusic</span></a></span>, as Leigh supports many musicians here on the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#fediverse</a>. But did you know the combo just released an album ? It's called "Space for you", and it's brilliant. I've had a real crush on "Vertical dead", may it be the darkest of the 10 titles of the album.
