Release v3.2.7 of Ktistec
<p>The two big features in <a href="https://github.com/toddsundsted/ktistec/compare/480c0c6f...c37790ba" rel="nofollow">release v3.2.7 of Ktistec</a> are back end support for creating polls (the front end is coming in the next release) and advanced theming support—specifically, a rich vocabulary of CSS class values and data attributes on which to build a theme. The full set is <a href="https://github.com/toddsundsted/ktistec?tab=readme-ov-file#css-classes-and-data-attributes" rel="nofollow">documented in the README</a>. They even gave it a funny new nickname: <a href="/tags/xampu/" rel="tag">#Xampu</a> (Shampoo in English, but it kinda sounds like you could pronounce XMPP in Brazilian Portuguese).</p>

They reach hundreds to millions of people.</p><p>The real issue, is that social media algorithms promote what is popular. And what's popular is garbage. <p>So, I'm forced to interact with mainstream social media because people love their walled gardens and they love fighting with the algorithm over there, for example, and refuse, outright refuse, to follow me to my own website and or RSS feed and or over here, but I *never, ever* want to hear some bullshit about how the <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a> is complicated to use. If you can use the absolutely awful shit design that is Linkedin, Facebook, Instagram, you can figure out that 2 instances are different from each other. No excuses, or maybe I'm just in a mood, but holy hell how do people do it?</p><p>Mainstream social is the most shit ass code I've ever encountered in a long time and that's saying something.</p><p>If I, a script kitty that writes about horny people for a living can figure out the Fediverse, you, as a mainstream user, have absolutely zero ground to talk about oh RSS feeds and this chronological timeline thing is complicated. I have to fight in your world to get a post up on your walled garden, do not, do not, tell me your god awful spaces is easier to use than a chronological timeline.</p><p><a href="/tags/socialmedia/" rel="tag">#socialmedia</a></p>

<p>What I do love about <a href="/tags/mastodon/" rel="tag">#Mastodon</a> and the greater <a href="/tags/fediverse/" rel="tag">#Fediverse</a>, by the way, are the personalities. There *is* a culture here. </p><p>Other microblogging sites have a sort of algorithmic supremacy going on where you trade personality for a ticket to the internet celebrity lottery. No individualism. You pick your niche from a set deck and you play the FYP slots. </p><p>Meanwhile, everyday I run into someone who's like "hey I'm star-cake. I'm a queer carrot farmer. I collect Soviet-era camera lenses." Amazing.</p>
<p>Exactly one year ago, on 30th December 2024, I laid the foundation of FediMeteo. </p><p>I took a VM, installed FreeBSD, and set up the first jail to support Italy. The goal was to create a tool for my own use, support a few countries, and announce it.</p><p>Unexpectedly, the enthusiasm was incredible. <p>Two Fediverse clients I like are Elk and Phanpy, but both had the same issue: the inability to filter "replies" and "boosts" from the timeline. For me this is essential. I can't keep up with my timeline, and if I also see replies to posts unrelated to what I follow, it just becomes chaos. So I tried to implement these filters and opened a PR.</p><p>The Elk developers have already merged it into the main branch, so we should soon see the two hide options appear in Elk.
