I'm trying desperately to avoid incurring late fees and undue attention from the leasing office. Moreso the latter than the former, if I'm being honest because we loathe "rocking the boat" and attracting scrutiny.</p><p>We have received a couple of <a href="/tags/gofundme/" rel="tag">#gofundme</a> donations in response to my previous post which we sincererly appreciate and can definitely use to compensate for my hours at work having dipped now that we're past the holiday season, but sadly we won't see the funds for several days so I can't count them towards our running total (unless we don't make deadline. Going late would also burn most if not all the funds from those donations in rental late fees which would really suck).</p><p>Please forgive me yet again for the constant <a href="/tags/mutualaid/" rel="tag">#MutualAid</a> posts. I know it's getting very, very, very old. I want to say "I shouldn't have let things get this far", but the reality is, it's complicated; I tried to do everything I could. I don't really have the mental and emotional stamina to work multiple jobs -- everyone says, "You'll just get used to it", but I literally start to have emotional breakdowns and mental glitches when I try to work that much, and my <a href="/tags/bpd/" rel="tag">#BPD</a> becomes almost unmanageable -- and my partner was struggling so badly with his <a href="/tags/ptsd/" rel="tag">#PTSD</a> trauma.</p><p>I don't want to be a burden to the community anymore, and I promise you we're working as hard as we can to achieve that. But we're not quite there yet. We adore this apartment and don't want to do anything to jeopardize it.</p><p>As an additional incentive for donating, I'm including a pic I took this morning from our balcony. If you see an account posting or spamming Telegram links, report it. Many of the accounts are impersonating news outlets — check verification status, the account's follower count, or the outlet's website to confirm if the account is real or fake.</p><p>2. Donate to your local mods if you can, or at least give them a big virtual hug and say thanks. <p>Right now, I’m in the middle of interviewing steering committee candidates for the potential PeerTube co-op. And one thing stands out about this process:</p><p>Every single person I’ve spoken with hasn’t just said, “I want to be a member-owner.” They’ve said, “I want to be a member-owner—and I’m willing to roll up my sleeves, donate my time, and help make this business real.”</p><p>In the start-up world, founders spend enormous amounts of time on something called validation—figuring out whether there’s a genuine product-market fit. It’s slow, uncertain work. Even after launch, many founders have to pivot more than once before landing on what people actually want.</p><p>Forming a co-op is often described as labour- and capital-intensive—and for good reason. In Canada, you can register a conventional corporation with a single incorporator. But to incorporate a co-operative, you need at least three founding members. You must also agree on bylaws, define your mission and vision, and establish governance and membership structures before anything exists.</p><p>Yet this extra effort brings a unique advantage: validation is built in. A co-op exists to serve its member-owners. The people joining are the market. Their participation defines how the product fits. In other words, the process of organizing the co-op doubles as a live test of demand and alignment.</p><p>That’s why I’ve been asking every steering committee candidate the same question:</p><p><p>“What do you hope a PeerTube co-op will do for you?”</p></p><p>The answers have been diverse, but a clear pattern has emerged. People want creative freedom. They want fairer terms than YouTube offers. And above all, they want a platform that feels truly theirs—not subject to opaque algorithms or arbitrary policy shifts.</p><p>That, I believe, is what authentic product-market fit looks like. In a co-op, the owners and the users are—if not perfectly identical—fundamentally aligned. <p>It “only” took me a few years to find out that I don’t need to have a PeerTube or Lemmy account to interact with them; I just need to copy/paste the link in Mastodon search and then follow or reply.</p><p>Why no one is saying this little detail FIRST to all the n00bs coming from the Horror socials?
