A kind of a sub toot that is very lengthy but a small rant, without any tea, about the culture on here and why it is so great, even if others hate it.

I know the more corporate side of the Fedi really don’t like considering how they post but try to do better than this guy, who I consider to be a bot at this point. The Fedi culture for us old hats though is about consideration, care, and community aware. I’m sure you bristle at those words because to you, you want to be a brand, not a community member but if you take the time to practice some of the below #FediTips I can promise you that you won’t feel so lonely out here.
Consider who is here. There are many kinds of people with all different kinds of lives very different from you. Consider how they are able to read your post. If they are unable to read it, due to a lack of a content warning, or a completely inaccessible picture like this, you won’t get the “engagement” you’re looking for.
Contemplate how you want to appear to others and why. It’s okay to slow down and or not post at all.
I’m guilty of being human. I rant. I share stuff I make or read. I read the timeline more than I reply but I consider who might be following me. That’s why I’m never afraid of the content warning, especially when making long posts such as this or when I’m talking US stuff. I consider not every phone has a huge screen so I put it behind a content warning. This is also why I do not reply to everybody even though I might be reading your posts every single day. I just do not have anything of substance to contribute so why should I flood your notifications?
Consider there are blind people and Deaf people here.
Care about the access of your post.
Engage with your community.
Everybody I see here that wants to transform this place to be more like mainstream social media isn’t taking the time to learn about the people on their own instance.
I know about the absolutely rampant racism on here, but there are good communities and good neighbors on here. Meet them. Slow down and learn about your community!
Now I’m off to mute this guy. I know he’s very popular, but I get more out of his Substack than whatever this account is and I HATE #SubStack but the bigger point is this quoted toot is an example of the kind of accounts I tend to just mute.
Oh and boost a lot! Boosting is caring! It's how my instance can see other smaller instances. I love boosts, reading boosts, and boosting others!
