I'm a software developer working on a bunch of #Fediverse things: #Emissary, #Bandwagon, and bandwagon.fm - with several more in the pipeline.
It's a pretty strange mix that doesn't really fit today's Fediverse, but it makes sense when you see the end goal.

The Fediverse is largely predicated on free, unpaid labor, with a sprinkling of donations keeping things afloat. We should be able to have entire careers in this space, building this amazing thing: IT workers, developers, designers, artists, writers, musicians, you name it!
Activity Intents are super cool. They’re like a social button you put on websites, to get you back to your own Fediverse client, but it can be used for Likes, replies, sharing, whatever you want.

I have been looking for a new location for FediCon 2026.
The location we used for FediCon 2025 is very nice — but also very expensive. (I paid for it out of my own pocket.)
I am trying to find a new location that is either less expensive or, if possible, free.
I'd like to try to keep the ticket prices low. And, one of the biggest things that goes into the ticket price is the cost of the location
FediCon kicks off tomorrow in Vancouver 💫
And... our co-founder @michael is making the trip across the Atlantic to be there - that's over 7,460 km!
We wouldn't make these trips if we didn't believe in the Open Social Web and how it can be used to better the world.
In particular, Michael is looking forward to meeting all the amazing faces we speak to regularly online in person.

WAFRN is so freaking awesome. Hilarious community, amazing platform, and it natively speaks both ActivityPub and ATproto.

I just talked to someone at SFU (Simon Fraser University) about trying to find a location for FediCon 2026.
He is a friend-of-a-friend.
We talked about what we would need for FediCon, in terms of a location, etc.
He needs to ask around (internally at SFU).
Hopefully, can get more details this or next week.

FediCon is happening today! Normally I'd be covering it, but work doodies call.
There are 14 million total accounts on the fediverse that @fedidb measures; that’s a ~40% increase over the last two years!
…but there’s a lot more the fediverse can do to grow.

I love the idea of local governments having Fedi accounts. It sounds silly, but the idea of a bunch of local departments being able to get their messages out can actually be really useful. Think about how many municipal accounts post updates on Twitter to keep people informed about local events or developments.
