The Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank's GDP Now is estimating 2.8% GDP decline in the 1st quarter of 2025 and the 1st month of Trump's presidency.
I'm not a GDP growth at all costs person--I believe we have no choice but to stop the mad obsession with making that number go up--but I do think it's important to note that GDP was growing relatively rapidly (by modern standards) through the end of 2024. This change marks a significant turnaround that looks like it might erase a quarter's worth of growth and then some. Official data release is March 27. I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that an administration whose only policy thus far has been to inflict pain on people would inflict economic pain as well.
2 quarters of this is a recession and 4 quarters of this is a depression by conventional metrics.

For weeks, #Trump has repeatedly boasted that his admin had managed to bring #EggPrices down. But new data on Thurs showed that egg #prices at the #grocery store continued to climb in March.
Egg prices rose 5.9% over the month, acc/to data released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics [#BLS]. They climbed at a slower rate, though, after rising 10.4% in February & 15.2% in January.
Compared with a year earlier, the price of #eggs is up 60.4%.

#trump finally admitted that the #economy isn't doing well.
However in true Republican fashion, he didn't actually take responsibility for anything like an adult.
He blamed it on the past like a child, which I don't think surprised anyone. #maga wouldn't know responsibility if it hit them in the face - the problems in the #usa are never their fault, it's all the libtard Democrats, Biden, or Obama despite him not being in office for a LONG time.
So #trump is doing exactly what I thought he was going to do with the #tariffs when he failed to actually strong arm any countries into unfair deals -
He is walking them back, and then saying he cut deals! When in reality things just went back to the previous tariff situation between the #usa and #china before the ABSOLUTELY INSANE trade war.
Then since #maga sheep are profoundly dumb, they'll eat it up and praise him for wrecking our #economy.
