Wrapping a #Django project in an electron app and shipping it to windows / macOS running a full data science stack (>1gb .venv) using a bundled relocatable Python interpreter with django-tasks for long running simulations and htmx to be able to show interactive progress. Still baffled that this works at all.

Like so many others, my life has been so much richer for having found #Django early on.
I started using it because I wanted to build tools for teachers and students, without having to spend all my time focusing on technical aspects of 2000s-era web app infrastructure. Django let me focus on the tools I was building, not the infrastructure itself.
Ten years later I finally went to a DjangoCon, and started meeting lifelong friends. Thank you to everyone that's helped it reach 20 years!
I started using #Django in 2007, before the version 1.0.
It was #Python 2.7.
I think SQLite was not yet part of the standard library.
My first real Django project started four years later, in 2011.
I contributed to it for about six years.
It’s still in use at @radiohelsinki
Five years ago I started contributing to a project that has evolved from it.
I have attended a couple of Django conferences in Europe and even had the opportunity to give a remote presentation at DjangoCon Europe and US two years ago.
I have always loved the people and the community around this wonderful project.
Another cool #Django package that was just announced: django-smart-ratelimit

Our open source journey started 20 years ago today, on July 13th 2005. Come celebrate this big milestone at one of our many community events this year
Only one week to go for anyone interested in becoming a Django Fellow, working on the #Django framework full time: https://www.djangoproject.com/weblog/2025/jun/09/django-fellow-applicants-2025/ Check it out!
Thank you 💚 for such a lovely response to Django’s 20th birthday! We received 63 new donations since, of which 12 are recurring 🫶
There’s only a few days left to meet our goal of 200 new donors with $20 or more – can you help us support #Django? #DjangoBirthday
New article: "Django at 20: a personal journey through 16 years"
#Django turned 20 a few days ago, which is a remarkable milestone for any software project. I’ve been along for most of that ride, starting my Django journey in September 2009. That’s almost 16 years ago! It’s been fascinating to watch both Django and my use of it evolve over time.
And happy 20th birthday to #Django !
Django was the first Python framework I've learnt, thanks to learning it on my own I got my first Python job, and here five years later I still work using it daily
I am currently looking for a #job . I am an experienced (senior) software developer/engineer with 7y of experience. If someone is looking for a capable software engineer or knows someone looking for engineers, please let me know.
I do #python #scheme #django #docker and aim for reproducible software. I learned some #devops and #ansible and can manage servers. Used to do #fullstack dev work, before everything needed to be an SPA.
I am looking for #remote work or work in #berlin or #potsdam .

This morning we celebrated Django's 20th birthday at EuroPython 2025. 🥳
We had a birthday cake and took some photos to immortalize the event. 🎂

At #EuroPython lots of people are asking how many projects are built with @django. The answer is about 500k to 1M. And yet we only raise $250k per year to support the project, yep, sustainability in open source is hard ☺️
If you have personally used a django-like web framework in Go, and especially if you've migrated an existing database-based django app that way, I would really appreciate hearing about your experience.
For context, I have ~5k lines of python and ~5k lines of templates in an existing app. I like django quite a bit, but continue to be only "eh" on python. The app is in Python 2 (yes, still, I know) and if I have to do the conversion, I'd like to know if there's a better option.
