defence
Current pet peeve is I am hearing all sorts of media & influencers referring to the US department of defense as the department of war now.
Why are you obeying in advance? This change in ideological status from defense to offence is offensive AND it is not official (or legal). So why comply with what isn’t & should not be, before it is & you must?
It’s not even truth. You become a propaganda tool. It’s like what he did with the Gulf of Mexico.
So Rachel Reeves has confirmed the austerity mindset continues in Govt., by announcing that the increase of defence budgets warranted (to be fair) by the current situation in the Middle East & the continuing threat(s) for Russia, will be paid for by cuts elsewhere in the public sector...
Given over a decade of cuts this will be brutal, and prompts the Q. if the country continues to devastated by austerity what exactly are our armed forces protecting?

Many of us are concerned that the UK spends too much on its nuclear deterrent & this is skewing the economics of defence spending and how this relates to other areas of public spending (especially in a period of re-emphasis on the security environment).
Well, when we compare the UK with other countries it turns out the UK's spending on nuclear weapons is an outlier - the Q. is why *do* we spend so much more on nukes than other countries?
Price gouging by the US?
#Europe, it is time.
