Decades after going #extinct in #Japan, 8 Crested Ibises, admired for their colorful plumage & bright red marks around their eyes, have been released into the wild. The birds went extinct on the Honshu main island in the 1970s, but came back to life in 1999, when artificial breeding by a pair donated from China led to the first Japanese #CrestedIbis chick born in captivity. 10 more birds are waiting to be released following a successful captive-breeding program.
