Le kauchemar

vel, en plein sommeil, est soudainement réveillée par juj qui semble inquiète.

« Euh, vel ? Réveille-toi…
— Heingue ? Hmm, quoi ?
— J'ai besoin de ton aide là, genre, vite s'il te plaît. »

Les deux amoureuses se rendent dans la cuisine. juj pointe du doigt un insecte de grande taille qui trône sur le comptoir.

« Là, genre là », dit-elle d'une voix tremblante, « regarde, là !
— Eh mais putain », s'exclame vel d'une expression fatiguée, « c'est un cafard, c'te merde ! Oh bordel, j'ai pas l'énergie pour ça, moi. »

La punkette se retourne vers sa chérie paniquée et lui pose les mains sur les épaules d'un air solennel.

« Bon écoute-moi bien, juj
— Oui ?
— Ce que je vais te dire est très important. Et surtout, tu paniques pas, d'accord ? Il faut surtout pas que tu paniques, c'est super important. Garde ton sang froid, tout ira bien. »

Subitement, vel cède à la panique et secoue juj dans tous les sens en hurlant.

« ON VA TOUTES CREVER, JUJ ! IL Y A DES CAFARDS CHEZ NOUS, C'EST FINI ! ON EST FOUTUES DE OUF, ET ON N'A PAS LES THUNES POUR APPELER DES DÉCAFARDISEURS ! »

Comic from my weekly series, Chamomile. Detailed Description Follows:

In an absolutely identical manner as the previous comic, Chamomile enters The Cubby and begins cheerfully speaking to Vienna, who is behind the counter. Chamomile says "Hey Vi, if you were stuck in a 24-hour time loop, what would you try? Like, to escape it?" Vienna turns around from what she's doing and says "...You asked me that same question yesterday." Chamomile lookes ecstatic, yelling "Oh! Thank goodness! I'm finally out!" Vienna gives a grimaced smile as she quietly says "...Alright, I'll humour the bit..." At normal volume, she then says "You've been stuck in a time loop, huh?" Chamomile says "Yeah, it was pretty harrowing, but I grew a lot as a person." Chamomile tilts her head in concern as she says "You don't seem very excited." Vienna says "Sorry, it's not so interesting from outside the loop." Chamomile says "Aw, here I was thinking that'd be a really novel perspective, compared to how time loop stories usually work!" Vienna says "Seems not." Chamomile replies "Yeah..." Vienna folds her arms and says "So, what broke you out, anyway?" Chamomile cheerfully says "Finally made a doctor's appointment I keep putting off." Vienna says "Ah, yeah. That'll do it." End of comic.

A comic, page 1. My friend has a young child, reads the panel. A little boy runs across the grass, playing with a dandelion puffball. Will he grow up thinking AI images, writing, music are good? That they reflect reality? The boy, a little grown up, watches generic oversaturated AI cartoons on the TV. The dead-eyed AI child melts off the screen. Will he feel nostalgic for them? Generate instead of learning to create? A button being clicked, neglected art supplies pushed to the side.

Page 2. Will he grow up believing there's only one way to be a man? A neat lineup of muscles, cars, women, angry outbursts, money, wealth in tiny boxes. Then three heads with demon horns portraying tearful sadness, joy, fear, all connected by an LGBT flag.
Will he grow up to think heat deaths are okay? That snow is as distant as penguins? The boy is lying comfortably in a fetal position in the middle of a massive serpent's coil. The snake has money for scales, and inside it are natural disasters: drought and forest fires, algal blooms with dead fish and trees flowering in the middle of autumn, snowless winters and buses swimming through flooded streets.

Page 3, final. Will he grow up thinking that the way the world is right now is completely fine? The boy looks across a fiery landscape, seeing only shades of pink. Will his imagination be limited to the status quo? I hope not.
The last panel is dark and hard to make out. A small house is tucked away in the corner of the image with a moon and stars above it. A russian missile taking up most of the panel points directly at it. The last text is broken in half by the missile: "if he even grows up at all".

Comic from my weekly series, Chamomile. Detailed Description Follows:

It's a very dark morning, the sun smothered by thick clouds, with heavy rain pouring. The voice of an unseen character says "We'll see you later sweetheart! Be brave! You can always go find your older brothers at lunchtime if you want to. We're sure you'll have a fun first day and make friends though. Love you!" The scene now reveals itself in full, a handful of parents are gathered near an entrance gate to Bay Valley East Primary School, silhouettes of kids and an adult chaperone beyond the gate are walking towards the buildings within the grounds. In the foreground, a couple, the source of the dialogue before are walking away holding hands, a woman and a man both in rain coats. The woman has black hair poking out of her hood, the man has glasses and curly brown hair. The woman, looking back towards the school gates says "Goodness... that's that then. All our children, grown up enough to be at school now." The man jovially says "What a day for it, too!" while adjusting his rain hat. The two are then seen walking down a high street, still in the rain. There's a red telephone box, an electronics store advertising a bulky desktop computer with a CRT monitor, tagline "The home office multimedia future is here!, a shop called "Worthwools", advertising Pick and/or Mix for 39p per 100 grams and a music sale that includes both CDs and cassettes! The man says "I thought I'd be much more emotional. Certainly was the first time... and yet, because we've been though it so many times now, there's a funny mundanity about it today instead, don't you think?" He turns to the woman and says "Oh, but it's really pouring isn't it? You'd think the both of us actually were bawling our eyes out!" We then see that the woman has indeed got comical amounts of tears streaming from her sopping wet eyes as she sniffs and sniffles, saying nothing. The man stammers "...A... ah..." The two continue walking, and the man says "Come on then, home and a hot drink for us, I think. Ha ha, tell you what'd be fitting for the day. We've got that box of herbal tea still. Shall we make a nice chamomile?" End of comic.

I've said it before (and I'm saying it again because I'm practicing to be an old guy who repeats his stories over and over) but I do not like the idea that adapting a book or comic or whatever into a movie/TV show is "bringing it to life".

Nah, the original work is what was alive. The movie is just official fan fic 😛
