If the mitigation ambition implied by current policies and NDCs continues, then there is virtually no chance of limiting warming to 1.5°C."
Answer: Yes we have.

Although it hasn't been officially confirmed yet — that won't happen for a few more days — posted data reveals that the average global temperature for 2024 finished at 1.6°C (‼️) above the pre-industrial average.

The UK govt has produced a "risk report" (187 pages long) for 2025 listing the likely threats to the UK for the year with probabilities for them happening, etc. One of these is a 60% likelihood of a significant and damaging heatwave in central, eastern or south-eastern England (minimum of five days in a row at over 35C).
The report emphasises "resilience" over actually doing anything to prevent the risks which basically means they don't give a shit.

The study suggests that this narrative unfairly shifts the responsibility of solving the climate crisis onto individuals, minimizing the role of energy industry and policymakers.
The study recommends that storytelling in the energy market should emphasize the role of companies and governments.

That’s what you get when short-sighted capitalists take complete ownership of the political system and the government — under both parties.
