A lot of us Yankees are struggling. I was so excited to post about good personal news this morning and once I opened Tusky, I.. oh wow.. good lord.

We're going to be struggling into the foreseeable future. It's a dark time for most of us who aren't fascists. We have an urgent need for all who are able to flood the world with pet pics and silly memes and all manner of distractions.

I'm calling on all comedians, artists, pet lovers, and all manner of people with empathy to flood the timeline.

Those of us with mental or physical health issues, disabilities, or members of marginalized groups are in danger and a lot of us are probably struggling to recover from yet another existential blow to our core values. Hell, even well-adjusted and caring WASPs could probably use a pick-me-up right now.

Folks, I realize this is spoken from a place of privilege that I neither deserve or have earned, and countless humans don't have the luxury of "taking a break" from looming disaster. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that humor - the darker, bluer, the better - is humankind's last great defense against evil.

I also realize this doesn't help us win the White House, but this is all the spoons I and many of us have. We are grateful to those of you who are able to fight on our behalf. But we all can use a break from all of this shit.

So, my fellow shitposters: Let's unite and make someone smile, laugh, or maybe even cry if they need to. This world is astonishingly overwhelming right now.
