Hugh Cook's excellent: Chronicles of an Age of Darkness, finally have new editions after languishing in copyright limbo for decades.
Cook plays with genre tropes, mixing adventure, satire and humor, elements that help these books transcend the limits that make so many other works of the 80s and 90s feel so dated.
The fan group that published them have made the effort to offer them at venues other than Amazon.

I've finished: Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman
I couldn't put Terra Nullioius down. The compelling characters and their struggle to survive kept me glued to my headphones.
I did not read the blurb and enjoyed the transition from the historical to the futuristic section of the novel.
My enjoyment was marred by the constant reminders of the authors intent. Coleman hits the reader repeatedly over the head with a 5kg hammer: THIS IS A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE COLONIAL TREATMENT OF THE AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL PEOPLE TO AN ALIEN INVASION.
There are allot of clues in the story itself and a couple of explicit references would have been enough.
But, I must repeat, I really enjoyed this novel.

Two parallel stories connected across time by, of all things, a taxidermied aardvark. The ""Not Gay"" congressman is amusing in his superficiality and Reagan-esque pretensions. The Victorian-era taxidermist (also ""not gay"") is boring & obsessive. Quirky & original, and enjoyable enough.

Lindsay Norris has been offered a priceless collection of rare first editions from the Dorchester family's vast collection. Unfortunately, tucked in with the books is the body of a long missing woman, last seen in the late 1980s.

A Spirited Supper at Dundoon Castle by Darci Hannah and Charlie Albers (Narrator) (2026) is the second book in the Food & Spirits mystery series. Bunny and her male costars head to Scotland to investigate the Ghostly Piper. While there they discover the body of one of the piping competition, dead at the bottom of a cliff.

Finished an interesting romp through the scientific and technological history of the representation and transmission of information, from talking drums to Wikipedia, with Claude Shannon's information theory taking the star turn. I appreciated that the author isn't afraid to look beyond hype and offer mild scepticism: on Norbert Wiener's more grandiose tendencies, or attempts to turn memetics into an academic field (also, any serious discussion of memes in a 2011 book is always going to read amusingly, given how the word has mutated). I'd be fascinated to know how Shannon, with his program for generating plausible (ish) English text, would have reacted to LLMs - the ultimate victory of 'information' over meaning? The author is active on Mastodon: @gleick . @bookstodon #bookstodon

"Light in the Window" by Martin McCaw (2011) is the first story in the Short Story America Anthology. It's a grim but hopeful look at the living conditions of loggers in Washington from the perspective of a correspondence school salesman.
