I was pleasantly surprised to get my hands on Glyph, by Ali Smith, with only one person ahead of me who had a hold on it at the library. Maybe she's not as well-known as I thought?

I think Ali Smith has brilliant moments in her use of narrative to comment on contemporary social issues. I have not fully connected with all of her work, but her Seasonal Quartet is my absolute favorite. Each season is a separate book, and presents a story within a story. You start with Autumn and work your way to Summer. Winter resonated with me the most, with that whip-smart dialogue. Right now, I'm skimming Gliff to make sure I remember the characters and the setting well enough to read Glyph, and ruminate on what the use of homonyms and different meanings might mean for the story.

#books #bookstodon
@@bookstodon

Have you heard of author Ali Smith, and are you from the UK, or outside the UK?
