<div>Somehow, Patricia Lockwood's memoir had completely escaped my attention when it first came out. I was familiar with (though I haven't read yet) her more recent novel, and of course, "Miette, her eyes enormous[...]" being one of the best all-time tweets. I'm glad to have rectified this gap in my reading. Her gift for description is perfect, and often hilarious. I kept reading bits aloud to my husband. If you have not read this smart, funny (and forgiving) memoir, please do.</div>

<div>This was better than I thought it would be. I mean, yes, the writing is nothing special, and there are almost as many brand name drops as in a Bret Easton Ellis novel, but it IS compulsively readable, much like the IG gossip account itself. I flew through it in just a few days because I wanted to know what happened next. Also appreciated that she names her co-/ghostwriter because more people who use them should admit it. We know you didn't turn around this book that fast on your own, "babe!" So if you follow the account already, you'll probably enjoy this. </div>

This book gives a good overview of the 'entire' Russian nation, as we know it today. It is helps you understand better the current unfolding events, and the response (or lack thereof) of the Russian people.

<div>Though it took me the first quarter of the book or so to really be hooked on the story, I liked this book a lot. At the halfway point, the plot really starts moving, and the details throughout are excellent. Between the clothes people choose, to the different environments the characters find themselves in, all of it seemed really well researched. Maybe we didn't have to know EVERY street name the characters walk down, but that's ok. Having been to North Beach/Chinatown several times, it was fun to read about somewhat familiar places as they would have been in the early '50s. I also appreciated reading a YA book that felt real. Nobody has a twee name, the ending isn't tidy, and the treatment of romance (and acting upon it) felt true to life, no matter the decade. Definitely recommend this one</div>

Great overview of the recent (and not so recent) history of Romania, told through the experiences of a journalist who has been visiting the country over the last 30 years or so. I would recommend this book to anyone traveling into Romania and who would like to understand the country and its people a bit better. After reading this book, I felt I could better sympathize with the Romanians - which is wonderful when a book can accomplish this.

Let me be clear from the start: Simon Van Booy has written an extraordinary novel. Everything Beautiful Began After is both a stolen kiss and the aching memory of the best stolen kisses. It is about adoration, grief and – my number one literary wheelhouse – the chronically lonely.
