Re-read this for obvious reasons. Striking things in this go-round: the frequent references to machine-made music, novels and even pornography; the preponderance of ugly little weirdos among Party members; the divestment in science that isn't weaponry- or surveillance-related.

Rated How Infrastructure Works: Inside the Systems That Shape Our World 10/10
love this. very thoughtfully done and lays out a theory of infrastructure as both care and freedom. Practical and informative, but with ideas, too.
Rated I Have Some Questions for You 8/10
very compelling, pretty bleak. didn’t grab my entire heart like GREAT BELIEVERS but very well done.

Rated Digging Stars 8/10
not a knockout like HOUSE OF STONE, maybe feels a little loose, but a compelling and interesting read - especially how it puts you inside the perspective of a Zimbabwean for whom American political/racial dynamics are somewhat opaque.
Rated Heads of the Colored People 8/10
A brief and clever collection of stories, loosely connected by characters, geography and theme - many of them about Black protagonists navigating relationships with other Black people in both Black and white social milieus. Engaging and well-executed.

Rated Devil House 8/10
a little bit less than the sum of its parts, but compelling and well-written
Rated No One Is Talking About This 8/10
mixed feelings about this one, but hard to argue with how funny and weird the funny-weird parts are and how heartbreaking the sad parts are.
Rated Born to Run 8/10
long, but more compelling all the way through than a lot of showbiz biographies. You really get a lot of Bruce’s personality - complete with caps and exclamation points and self-consciously lyrical turns of phrase - and a lot of revealing insight into his life, including, strikingly, his struggles with depression. If you love Bruce this book will confirm it.
