In The Defense, Nabokov’s language is, as always, rich, sharp, and full of vivid imagery and wordplay.
The characters, however, feel strangely soulless and do not inspire sympathy. It even seems that the author treats them with a kind of superiority bordering on contempt.

Rated She Isn't Herself Tonight 8/10
I think this is the first Hailey Piper that I've read. It is good, I like the main character and there's some kind of symbolism and allegory going on here, but there's also a bit of horror and ambiguity.
Rated Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear 10/10
Maybe because these are so short and usually focus on different characters, the series is still going strong ten books in. I liked this one and Nadya's disability seemed to be handled well (I had a workshop on disability right after I finished the book and heard some things that matched with her experiences.) I had somewhat forgot her earlier appearances in the series (which are later in her life) so the ending was a surprise to me.

I haven't read the book yet, but I will try to get a copy somehow... It's published in the USA, and with all the tariffs... 🤔 But she mentioned an eReader version, so that may be the easiest way to get it for me. It is on Amazon, which isn't everyone's cup-of-tea... But still, it could be worth to check it out!

Rated The Kite Runner 10/10
I would like to give this a 4.5 star rating. Lots of stuff I didn't know about Afghanistan and their culture(s), well written but also a lot of stuff I had to suspend disbelief for and some cliche/melodrama plotting. Still, it was hard to put it down.

This one has a great voice. Almost reaches into absurdity like Tom Robbins, but not quite as far out. I hope she writes more books like this.
