<div>First off, why do so many people hate "The Quest for Blank Claveringi" ? What's not to love about 15 FT, MAN-EATING LAND-SNAILS? Come on, that is hilariously over the top, and the explorer gets eaten! Amazing. Perfect.<br><br>That said, I liked most stories in here, but cw: for "The Terrapin" because that death scene for the little turtle is a lot! Still a good story, but fair warning. I'd say this collection is more of a horror collection than mystery/regular crime fiction, but these labels are up to reader, I suppose.</div>

I waffled a bit between three stars or four because there are too many damn characters to keep track of and sometimes the writing is bogged down in superfluous detail, but I kinda get that was part of the point -- that our histories are complex, and the English class system could really muck things up for people.<br><br>You can tell this is a first novel -- though it was released as Jean Marsh's second, she wrote this one first. Big ambition, sometimes shaky in execution. Still liked it, but would recommend her other two books first.

Lydia Davis' "The Cows" is easily my favorite story in this volume, and it's an overall strong collection of stories. Rated Maradona's mythe: Diego en de kinderen van Napels 2/10

Een slappe herschrijving van het boek van Sjoerd Mossou. 95% van het boek is oude, bekende kost. De overige 5% gaat over de zogenaamde mythe van het weeshuis. <br/>Bekende Napolitanen als Geolier worden op geforceerde wijze bij het verhaal betrokken. Er is echt weinig uniek aan het boek. <br/><br/>Daarnaast is het boek ook nog eens gewoon slecht geschreven. Het zit vol domme grappen, onnavolgbare vergelijkingen en onnodige linkjes naar het zoontje van de schrijver. <br/>Ik keek uit naar dit boek en ben teleurgesteld. Sorry, Sander.
