Hello to all of you people of mastodon! 🤗
This is my #introduction
Here I will share stuff and links that I would like more people to know, I will also try to write some reflexions and though on my projects. I live in Normandy, France. First big group ride this year with local cycling group Charles River Wheelers (CRW).
Rode through some very wealthy suburban towns (Dover is the wealthiest town in Massachusetts with median household income of $250k+)
Very fast paced group. Started with the 2nd group (15-16mph pace) but caught the first group (17-18mph pace) shortly after. I stayed with the first group and average speed of this ride is 17.9mph!
Barcelona Collserola loop cycling
Really nice mountain route. Some steep climbs. Cloudy so I wasn’t getting torched by the sun.
Stopped by a little restaurant for a coffee in the mountain outskirts of Barcelona.
Somehow they figured out how to pave roads smooth and not have potholes all over the place. Somehow they figured out how to design bike lanes properly in the dense urban area so people on bikes are comfortable. Somehow they figured out how to make roundabouts / rotaries (as referred to by massholes) not so scary…
The biggest pothole I ran into is smaller than my fist and I only saw three of them on this whole 40 miles route.

Mt Wachusett on a hot day. Left Bolton around 8am. Made it to the top around 9:40am. And we decided that was not enough climb for the day, so we made the summit loop 3x 🤣 which increased about 900 feet elevation gain for the ride.
Got a flat with 0.3 miles to go at Bolton. I continued riding the flat and changed the tube when I got home. And I tried using CO2 cartridge for the first time! Gotta practice!
Stopped at Nan’s kitchen in Stow for lunch. Got a delicious Salmon bowl!

It’s a real commuter bike now!
Pros:
I don’t have to carry the backpack on my back so I don’t get as sweaty.
Cons:
Took a huge aero penalty. And it’s so fucking windy today.
Took a huge weight penalty. The rear rack + the heavier bag.
I don’t look as cool 😫.
South shore (Scituate) loop from Dorchester via Milton.
Stopped at Scituate harbor for coffee and a muffin. The coffee shop doesn’t make espresso??? Only drip coffee 🥹
Btw I might have peed in the woods in Wompatuck State Park. The mosquitoes definitely smelt their meat I’d say. 🦟
Overall great ride. Left early in the morning at 7am when there wasn’t too much traffic. It was cloudy and misty, especially near the coast, but it was nice and cool. I’d take that 100% over the 90+ heat wave 😂. The route is relatively flat - 2000 feet ascend over 58 miles. So I did a lot of sprinting - sprint Saturday it is…

A little wandering and exploration in Savin Hill in Dorchester. Not the Stabbing Hill any more. Great view of downtown Boston (should’ve stopped to snap a pic)
Gorgeous day for my morning commute
Wandered a bit in my neighborhood Popes Hill in Dorchester

My first century (imperial) in 2024
My body hurts everywhere 😅
A great day to do some bike maintenance as well.
While I was wearing myself out on a 100+ miles ride, Josh decided to ride 28 miles around the beautiful country roads in Lincoln / Sudbury. But he started feeling tired and miserable after 20 miles. At 24 miles he got a flat. He was frustrated but then after walking a bit, he thought, you know what, I’m not mad that I have to walk the rest 4 miles. Good for him 🤣
So I bought some tubes from my local bike shop, replaced the tube for him this afternoon. And also refilled my commuter bike tires with sealant (yes it’s tubeless).
Bike maintenance day.
A little bit of mixed modes today:
Grabbed a blue bike at 4:43pm and rode to the Apple store in East Cambridge from Kendall.
At 4:57pm I got the iPad mini I ordered for Josh and grabbed another blue bike riding to Park St to catch the red line train.
At 5:10pm I was waiting for the train.
Literally no other mode of transportation could be this efficient and easy around the city.
Seriously can you believe how beautiful my city is???

I just ordered some Continental Grand Prix 5000 tires
My old bike tires come with the bike and have 3000+ miles on it. I started getting flats since early September. Every other ride. Fortunately I got the flat at the end of the ride last time and I didn’t even notice before I got home 😝
I’m excited to try GP5000! I’ve been told they’re good!
Quick spin on the new tires
Someone was playing saxophone by Neponset trail. Was he the target of a recent 311 complaint about someone playing saxophone (near Adams & King playground in Dorchester)? 😅
Getting my bike ready for tomorrow's outdoor ride - temperature is gonna be 50s which is absolutely amazing for New England. And I'm excited to finally ride outside!
And there're so many things to charge before a bike ride now - my bike computer, batteries for front / rear derailleurs, tail light and radar, heart rate monitor...
Needed to make a quick charging stop in Eastham because I forgot to charge to 100% before leaving for Provincetown, and the extra drag from the bike rack made the efficiency worse. Obviously the bike design is not optimized for the aerodynamic when it's sideways 😜
I could charge near Ptown long enough so I can make it home, but 1) Ptown's DC charger is a Tesla supercharger, as much as I don't want give money to Musk, it is also not 800V output, meaning the Taycan only takes around 140-150kw, which is not so much different from the 120kw I can get from this ChargePoint. 2) as I don't drive much, I need to take advantage of the Electrify America free charging when I have the opportunity.
So a quick 9 mins charge from 11% to 22% and we got on the way to the Electrify America in Hyannis. Arrived with 13% SoC and got the free juice to 85%.

Riding my bicycle
Early Spring
> This is great, I'm good to go with a pair of long pants, a thin sweater and my windbreaker.
Late Spring
> It's too cold out, if I can't wear short pants.
Col de la Madone! One climb on my list checked!
Nice area is seriously a cycling heaven. The weather was perfect today. The 1500 ft climb from Nice through Eze is a little appetizer for the Madone, but the view was breathtaking. Menton is a bustling seaside town with beach goers. From there, just a few blocks, I was on an 8+ mile journey of climbing 3000 feet from sea level. It is the biggest climb I've done. There were a few cyclists trying to talk with me but I couldn't understand what they were saying LOL.
After a speedy descent from the Madone to Peille, I had lunch at Le p'tit gourmet. Peille is a really quiet town on the mountain. The daube was delicious and very satisfying. From there it was almost all the way down to Nice. That was probably the easiest 20 miles I've ever done.
I'm sure I'll come back!

Had a tour on the bike around the city after work today. What a beautiful day and I love my city (when weather is nice) 🤣
Esplanade, Boylston St, Leather District
That made me think - Bay Village is the smallest neighborhood in Boston but it feels like Leather District is even smaller!
Got more nutrition (mostly carb LOL) for long rides. Hope they taste good (not bad at least)… I had two occasions when I bonked and it didn't feel good, so I always bring more than I need.
What do you do to keep yourself fueled on long rides?
Guys it's finally here!! I'm so excited!! Gonna take them and the bike to Landry's the first thing in the morning tomorrow!! What a beauty!
we're going to start an ebike gang!
We are looking for trouble, and by trouble, I mean a pretty view where we can watch the sunset, listen to birds and draw in our sketchbook.
New wheelset, new waxed chain, new bar tape, new brake pads, new tires (30mm now vs 28mm)
It feels awesome and looks awesome. The Enve inner drive free hub is loud, and I swapped the 60 teeth ratchet to 90 teeth, which makes higher pitch noise. I still need to get used to it, but good thing is that runners and pedestrians can hear me approaching 🤪 if they're not wearing headphones...
Quick 10 miles spin along Neponset River.

I seriously hurt some bro's ego yesterday on the way back from my spontaneous ride to Lexington. I had my commute bike (it's actually a gravel bike) with a backpack rack, my work backpack, and big heavy puncture proof tires. And I was in civilized clothes. Heavy and not aero at all.
Some bros on Mass Ave were riding aggressively and fast, I figured I would try to see if I could keep up with them. I had never followed them closely to draft behind them by keeping at least 3 feet away, sometimes dropping further behind. But after half a mile or a mile or so, the bro realized I was still keeping up (he looked back), and he decided to blow up on Mass Ave during rush hour between Alewife and Porter, and blew past a red light. He almost got hit by a car, it was nerve wrecking even to watch, and he got yelled at by his buddy. I realized he was doing very aggressive and dangerous things so I let them go.
Hilariously I caught them up at Mass Ave Bridge inbound 😂 he was struggling on the inbound ascend and I could hear him talking with his buddy about me being as surprisingly fast as them, and what the hell they were doing 😂 then they continued to ride aggressively, just to be stopped by cars all the time. And he took a long time to clip in. He took the traffic lane instead of bike lane, which was fine, but his buddy almost ran into the concrete barrier following him and had to unclip and slow down. Thank god they took the Southwest corridor at Mass Ave T station so I didn't have to witness some dumbass behaviors.
Maybe they're too young to realize their life is more important than their ego? 😂😂😂
