German landscape painter Caspar David Friedrich was born #OTD in 1774.

He is best known for his allegorical landscapes, which typically feature contemplative figures silhouetted against night skies, morning mists, barren trees or Gothic ruins. His primary interest was the contemplation of nature, and his often symbolic and anti-classical work seeks to convey a subjective, emotional response to the natural world.

Caspar David Friedrich is depicted from the chest up, with a serious and contemplative expression. Astounding vol. 22, no. 3 (November 1938)

I genuinely don't know what's going on here. Jupiter, rotated ninety degrees, fine, but what's happening at the top? It's in shadow but there's a planet visible in the shadow? This is like when a star can be seen in the dark part of a crescent moon, it doesn't make sense.

The geese in the gaggle were gabbling about whatever it is geese gabble about, but the cow in the pasture was silent, apparently grazing, but no doubt thinking deep philosophical thoughts, possibly about the observations that the geese were so intently making.
