I realised I've now been around here for several years and tooted a ridiculous number of things so it's time for an updated intro to pin to my profile.

I'm Joanna. I live in Melbourne on the lands of the Kulin Nation.

I'm a legal administrator for a conservation not-for-profit. It makes me really happy that my spreadsheet wrangling helps protect threatened creatures and landscapes. In my spare time I'm a (very) amateur but enthusiastic birder- I'm sure neighbours who see me pointing cameras up at trees think I'm strange. I'm obsessed with #eurovision, get a lot of joy out of trashy dance music and have been getting into #MusicalTheatre. I'm always interested in #book recommendations. I post quite a bit about things happening in #Melbourne and love discussing what might make this place better. Long walks through Melbourne make me happy. I'm an amateur #photographer, mostly of #architecture and cute animals (instagram links in bio). I'm also currently trying to learn to speak #indonesian

Some other interests I probably won't post that much about but would be interested to follow discussions on are #christian #theology and spirituality, #linguistics and Indigenous history and culture.

"Church visited Greece in 1869 and spent several weeks in Athens. There, he painted numerous studies and oil sketches of the ruins of the Parthenon that later served as the basis for this work. Although he intended to paint a large canvas of the Parthenon while still in Greece, it was not until 1871 that a commission from the financier and philanthropist Morris K. Jesup permitted Church to begin this large canvas. By February of that year, he was already at work on "a big Parthenon". By May, he had apparently finished the painting and wrote of his concern for its proper lighting in Jesup's home. The picture was first exhibited in New York at Goupil's Gallery in 1872 where it was highly acclaimed. It appeared subsequently in many major exhibitions, including the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1878." - from the Internet Archive

The representation of India created by John Board on the 1887 Doulton Fountain on Glasgow Green. Designed for the 1888 International Exhibition, it's the largest terracotta fountain in the world. It features Queen Victoria at its summit, while at the bottom are representations of the four components of her empire: Australia, Canada, South Africa and India.

St Germans Church, Cornwall

Two marvels in one: the Norman portal on the West front is unrivalled in the county, with seven orders of decoration, built of beautiful sage-green stone from Tarten Down at nearby Landrake. The wooden door was commissioned in 1903 by the Countess of St Germans, and sports a bronze door handle designd by Henry Wilson, featuring beautifully tactile fish. Also shown in my profile image.
