Today's stabbing-at-a-distance session was a lesson in how to cope with windy conditions.
Between 11 am and 1:20 pm winds were averaging about 20 kph and very variable, with gusts up to almost 50 kph. The wind direction was also the worst it could be, blowing directly right to left across the range and blowing arrows off arrow rests for all the archers with right handed bows (like me).
The OzBow coaches had those of us who had been shooting at 30 metres drop back to 20 metres with the others, and even the compound bow users were shooting at 30 metres instead of 40 or 50. We were coached to take our time and wait for moments when the wind dropped to shoot. It was a bit frustrating at times but I shot fairly well by my standards, and put most of my arrows in gold.
