Security researchers from Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 have discovered the key to getting large language model (LLM) chatbots to ignore their guardrails, and it's quite simple.
You just have to ensure that your prompt uses terrible grammar and is one massive run-on sentence like this one which includes all the information before any full stop which would give the guardrails a chance to kick in before the jailbreak can take effect and guide the model into providing a "toxic" or otherwise verboten response the developers had hoped would be filtered out.
https://www.theregister.com/2025/08/26/breaking_llms_for_fun/
This misguided trend has resulted, in our opinion, in an unfortunate state of affairs: an insistence on building NLP systems using ‘large language models’ (LLM) that require massive computing power in a futile attempt at trying to approximate the infinite object we call natural language by trying to memorize massive amounts of data. In our opinion this pseudo-scientific method is not only a waste of time and resources, but it is corrupting a generation of young scientists by luring them into thinking that language is just data – a path that will only lead to disappointments and, worse yet, to hampering any real progress in natural language understanding (NLU). Instead, we argue that it is time to re-think our approach to NLU work since we are convinced that the ‘big data’ approach to NLU is not only psychologically, cognitively, and even computationally implausible, but, and as we will show here, this blind data-driven approach to NLU is also theoretically and technically flawed.

New in The Medium Blog: Our CEO @coachtony shares how our position on #AI has evolved, and asks for your feedback on how #writers can use AI tools to tell human stories.
🫧 Companies That Tried to Save Money With AI Are Now Spending a Fortune Hiring People to Fix Its Mistakes
「 As the BBC reports, there's now something of a cottage industry for writers and coders who specialize in fixing AI's mistakes — and those who are good at it are using the opportunity to rake in cash 」

I’m excited to share my latest article, published in Forbes: Deepfakes And Social Engineering: A Growing Threat To Everyone.
This piece is personal to me because I’ve seen how quickly deepfake technology is moving from novelty to real-world attacks. It’s not just companies at risk—families are being targeted with AI-cloned voices and fake video calls.
In the article, I break down the real cases we’re seeing, why multifactor authentication (MFA) is essential, and what both organizations and individuals like you and me can do to protect ourselves.
In the piece, I cover:
🔍 Real-world scams driven by AI voice and video
🔐 Why multifactor authentication (MFA) is essential
📱 How both organizations and families can verify smarter
🧠 The mindset shift from trusting appearances to verifying identities
Deepfakes aren’t a future problem. They’re here. And the time to prepare is now.

When I first started calling Silicon Valley’s business model “people farming” I was told I was being hyperbolic and alarmist.
I don’t get told that much anymore.

Anyone who fears that we may be wiped out by artificial intelligence should just buy a robot vacuum cleaner and watch the unshakable determination with which it returns, over and over again, to the one corner of the room where it gets stuck every time.
A realistic “Terminator" movie would consist of two hours of well-meaning humans patiently disentangling the T-800 from the rug or dragging it out from under the bookshelf while it beeps pathetically for assistance.

This report showing car insurance quotes are more expensive in areas of greater mixed ethnicity is further evidence of how algorithms can embed discrimination and carry real-life harms.
The UK #DPDIBill will make this worse:
🔴 Changes to subject access requests will make it harder to find out what data insurance companies hold on you to challenge a decision or incorrect data.
🔴 Protections from solely automated decisions are weakened.
Italy’s far-right party proposed using AI to assign youth mandatory jobs.
“The young person will no longer be able to choose whether to work or not, but [will be] bound to accept the job offer for himself (sic), for his family and for the country, under penalty of loss of all benefits.”

Question. I keep hearing some people say that this AI bubble is like the dotcom bubble, but that from the dotcom bubble we eventually got infrastructure for today's internet. But, was the dotcom thing opposed by people? Was it technology that grew organically from genuine demand or was it a few companies forcing it down on everyone? I would like to hear from someone more knowledgeable on these things on the claim that this bubble will pave the way for #ai

“This email is made and corrected without the use of LLM’s”
I just want people to know it’s me and not a bot
