Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 815 , Tuesday 20/01/2026
Tuesday started around 07:30, it would have been later but I forgot to put y earplugs in so the pre-dawn chorus of next door kids woke me up.
A quiet day of chores & KCD2 - Mrs S was out in the office so I had the house mostly to myself.
Final Thoughts.
I need to go get a blood test on Thursday - I’ll have to see if I can persuade Mrs S to drop me off at the hospital because the GPs are claiming that they are snowed under. I have no doubt that I will wait several hours for the dubious benefit of some one taking 5 minutes to stab me in the arm!

I am so dissociated that I'm amazed I can even engage in brief conversations.
#Autism #autistic #neurodiverse @autistics #AutisticBurnout #ActuallyAutistic
Today I (in order):
- Slept well (above average)
- Had therapy
- Took a shortish walk (3km)
- Did shopping (not at a busy time)
- Biked to pick up kid-the-younger
- Made dinner
Before I got to making dinner I was tired, and after I was exhausted.
Granted, I did work Monday and Tuesday, but for most people that should not have significant effect later (it was normal to good days with minimal work crap.)
I’m supposedly “high functioning” autistic… *
* I only use that phrasing here “for effect”. I would not in normal cases use functioning labels.
Autism and ADHD are just words. Words that give me the possibility to talk about myself, about my experiences and to understand myself.
They stand for something that is so much more complex, something that defines my identity. Yes, it defines my identity. If it defines a part of the identity of a person, if they prefer to wear sneakers or high heels, the fact that I struggle with wearing almost any kind of clothes, especially shoes, it’s very much part of mine. It has a strong influence on how I can express myself and my personality, how I experience the world around me and my ability to interact with it. And that is just one example of many aspects that are part of my neurodivergence, of me being AuDHD, being shaped by CPTSD.
We need simplifications to communicate, to talk about our neurodivergence, to share experiences, even if these words can’t describe this experience as a whole. They are just placeholders for something so much more complex than a diagnosis, a set of traits, a label other people put on us, but they give us a voice. They are a tool that enables us to connect with each other and getting to know each other as neurodivergent people. And we need that so much.
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 818 , Friday 23/01/2026
Friday has been another quiet day, the weather has continued to be absolutely ‘orrible. Wet, dark n cold!
The high point of the day was pizza for tea - specifically a meat feats pizza, which was as naughty as it was nice!
Final Thoughts.
I still have the remnants of that flu bug from the other week lurking, I wish I could shake it!
Hey ho, weekend tomorrow - where the hell did this week go!

@autistics #ActuallyAutistic my therapist would call this my commitment to social justice...
…employers consider this me being insubordinate
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic never had this said to me explicitly, but i imagine it's been thought about me…
Living alone, I'd just have spent this weekend doing nothing, with no sensory input that I can't control. I wouldn't even have noticed there was a problem.
The way it is, overstimulated as I am from a full-day workshop and long car commute on Thursday and with no way to calm my senses through Friday, I'm sitting at the breakfast table, crying from overwhelm. My husband was making bread (loud machine!) and de-cluttering the kitchen (loud visuals) when I came downstairs to eat, and it pushed me over the edge. Even the birdsong outside the window is too much right now.
At times like these, I feel genuinely disabled by being autistic.
Apologies in advance for the lack of alt text, but here's my most recent GoFundMe post. Since none of the groups are boosting my posts due to a previous ban, it's better this can't be indexed. #aspie #aspielife #actuallyautistic
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic two odd experiences to share:
(1) last night, well meaning friend said to me “Ever since your diagnosis, autism [in movies and tv] seems to be everywhere.”
(2) earlier today, colleague asked me for advice on how to respond to an inquiry from an autistic person who was growing increasingly frustrated with the email exchange
i've only been diagnoses for 2 years and somehow i have become Autism Yoda for people in my sphere
not sure if i should be offended or not
the autistic urge to eat the same thing until you never ever want to see that meal again. just hit it today. ohhhh i have no idea what to do for food now
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic story of my life…
@autistics #ActuallyAutistic my self preservation instinct has been on the fritz for some time now
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 938 , Saturday 23/05/2026
Hah defeated to noise bots next door by the use of ear plugs … even so I was still up before 07:20 today!
Did my chores then spent a n hour or so on Elite Dangerous.
Mrs S decided that we were going carpet hunting after lunch, just to the local shop where we met the proprietor, Patrick, a very helpful man though he did have a thing for castors on office chairs!
Carpet picked & Patrick is coming out Tuesday to measure up.
Settled down to catch up on a couple of Mrs S’s cop shows when we got back which were accompanied by our now regular ‘Cona’ coffee.
16:00 So since starting to play Elite Dangerous again I have really felt the difference between the legacy version that runs on the PS5 & the things that one can do on the current version that only runs on the PC.
So I’ve been thinking about a gaming PC, but cannot currently afford a decent one.
However I do have a 2019 intel MacBook Pro which will run windows & therefore windows games … yes the one that I installed Kubuntu on, but needs must etc.
So starting to convert the MBP to windoze, just a gaming machine I have no intention of using it for anything else, we have an old laptop that I can put linux on.
Step one, reinstall OSX!
22:10 Well it seems that OSX is reluctant to return to my MBP, recovery mode failed so now having to try other methods.
Final Thoughts.
Why couldn’t I have chosen an easier hobby, brain surgery, designing portable nuclear fusion devices you know something easy!
Hey ho, no doubt the technology will bend to my will eventually!

Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 862 , Sunday 08/03/2026
Sunday started at about 05:30 / 6am because next door was making a racket again - they are really annoying sometimes!
I tossed & turned for another hour or so, finally getting up at around 7:30.
Sunday has been a quiet day, but I did finish sorting out the books in my room so I can now see my desk!
Not really done much else today, it’s been grey & grisly here in deepest, darkest Yorkshire so energy & motivation levels have not been high.
Did us a slightly weird mix of meat balls in tomato sauce with peas, carrots & potatoes because we didn’t have any pasta in. It wasn’t bad.
Had vanilla ice cream with some raspberry sauce I got for Christmas but never used for dessert, rather a nice treat!
Final Thoughts.
Not a bad Sunday as Sundays go!

Good evening Squirrel Fans.
Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse was beaten up & then shot by ICE in Minneapolis.
I can only express my deepest condolences to his family & friends.
We had a dream :-
“Sometimes I dream that we could deal with the big crimes, that we could make a law for countries and not just for people,”
― Terry Pratchett, Jingo

Do any other #ActuallyAutistic peeps struggle with knowing the line between asking personal questions of acquaintances or new friends to express interest vs being nosy/intrusive?
Sometimes I feel like every question out of my mouth to someone I don't know so well is borderline stalkerish, like they'll think I'm putting together a file on them. So I tend not to ask many questions unless people volunteer information & I guess I come off as aloof rather than intrusive.
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 819 , Saturday 24/01/2026
Saturday was just like any other Saturday until Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse was beaten up & then shot by ICE in Minneapolis.
I feel incredibly sad that this man, who’s only crime seems to have been witnessing ICE activities & possibly to give them a piece of his mind - which most of the people I know would do as a matter of course, has lost his life.
I can only express my deepest condolences to his family & friends.
Final Thoughts.
I cannot help but wonder if I will wake up to a new reality in the USA in the morning.

@autistics #ActuallyAutistic if someone you barely knows asks you for resume advice, and you see something on their resume you personally have an ethical issue about, but you do not know their leanings, do you say something?
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 820 , Sunday 25/01/2026
Sunday started around 8am after a nice lie in.
I’d like to say it’s been a relaxing day & that I’ve managed to avoid doom scrolling but that would be a fib.
Still I’ve managed to get thru the day without spontaneously exploding or ‘Happening’ to anyone so we’ll call it a no score draw hey.
For lunch I grated the last of the speciality cheese from christmas (cheshire with cranberries ) on top of a couple of halved bread cakes & bunged them in the airfryer for 4 minutes then added some sliced pickled onions to make a couple of impromptu cheese n onion sarnies - surprisingly tasty!
We caught up on a couple of Mrs S’s shows this afternoon then watched the last 2 eps of ‘Down Cemetery Rd’ with some nuked lamb hotpot.
Final Thoughts.
The actions of the 4th reich yesterday reverberate around the world &, as the orange oaf threatens the 2nd amendment, the press suddenly become ‘aware’ of what is going on.
Or am I being cynical?

@actuallyautistic @autistics #ActuallyAutistic progress i guess?
http://www.autismpolicyblog.com/2025/06/idf-and-autism.html
when it comes to trying to change policies at work for the better, all i hear is:
“I don’t get paid to do this.”
Today I had to think about a post I read some time ago, that stated that all cats are autistic and dogs are ADHD. You know these videos or stories where a cat instigates the dog in the household to help them steal food from the counter or do other forbidden things for them? Yeah, that’s me being AuDHD.
Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 821 , Monday 26/01/2026
Monday started earlier than normal at around 7am.
Had to go for a blood test at just after 8am, the cold & my naturally shy veins resulted in the phlebotomist having to make 3 attempts to squeeze a measly couple of mm of the old claret from this stone!
Then after a restorative cuppa & doing a couple of chores I had to cross the wild wastes of Yorkshire to play babysitter to the chap doing the valuation of the contents of my MiLs house.
He was due at 12 but was about 30 minutes late - which gave me a little longer to sort things out.
Was back home for a latish lunch & then lost myself in medieval Bohemia for a few hours!
I was treated to a Fried chicken takeaway for my tea by way of reward for my efforts today.
Final Thoughts.
I was very anxious having to meet a new person on my own, but my masks held & it all went well in the end.
