Taking place one year before the events of the original Macross series, Macross Zero chronicles the final days of the war between the U.N. Spacy and anti-U.N. factions. After being shot down by the anti-U.N.'s newest fighter plane, ace pilot Shin Kudo finds himself on the remote island of Mayan, where technology is almost non-existent. While Shin stays on the island to heal his wounds, the tranquility of the island is shattered by a battle that involves the UN's newest fighter - the VF-0.

The seven short films making up GENIUS PARTY couldn’t be more diverse, linked only by a high standard of quality and inspiration. Atsuko Fukushima’s intro piece is a fantastic abstraction to soak up with the eyes. Masaaki Yuasa, of MIND GAME and CAT SOUP fame, brings his distinctive and deceptively simple graphic style and dream-state logic to the table with “Happy Machine,” his spin on a child’s earliest year. Shinji Kimura’s spookier “Deathtic 4,” meanwhile, seems to tap into the creepier corners of a child’s imagination and open up a toybox full of dark delights. Hideki Futamura’s “Limit Cycle” conjures up a vision of virtual reality, while Yuji Fukuyama’s "Doorbell" and "Baby Blue" by Shinichiro Watanabe use understated realism for very surreal purposes. And Shoji Kawamori, with “Shanghai Dragon,” takes the tropes and conventions of traditional anime out for very fun joyride.

随同去年9月底《超时空要塞F》最终回放送结束之际，TV动画片尾便登布了剧场版制作的消息，广大死忠为之虎躯一震，翘首以待。在2009年1月发售的Macross系列作品的综合杂志《Macross Ace》Vol.001当中，些许剧场版情报流出，其中在河森正治总监督＆菅野洋子特别会谈中，两位业内人士对将在2009年上映的《超时空要塞MF》剧场版进行了将近3小时的对话，从中我们得知了剧场版将计划让库兰往爱情方面发展，补足TV中的遗憾，原本在TV中河森神棍的许多建议未被采纳的建议今回将在剧场版中表现出来，而剧中也许会对TV系列进行回顾，引用河森的说法便是为了能让初次接触MF的人对该作有个大概的了解，所以在角色的立场上会有所变动，而至于库兰是否顶替双歌姬的位置菅野洋子回答有机会的话会尝试。
在忙碌于剧场版制作将近半年的时间内，6月份发售的《Macross Ace》Vol.002终于闪亮登场，同时还带来了两则关于剧场版的消息。其一为剧场版《超时空要塞F》将于11月21日正式上映，加入了冬季剧场放映档期。其二为剧场版《超时空要塞F》标题正式定为“虚空歌姫”，而杂志图中绿坝娘兰华李惊现真实二字，腹黑状态的雪露女王只搭配了嘘字，难不成在剧场版中将要揭示绿坝娘才是阿尔特的最终翅膀么！？那么之前《Macross Ace》Vol.001中透露的库兰为主角又是怎么回事！？河森神棍你必须给我们一个交代啊！河森你有什么不开心的事？说出来让大家开心一下，请不要黑雪露好吗？

After a mysterious spaceship crashes on Earth a fleet of spaceships belonging to a race of aliens known as the Zentradi descend upon Earth sparking an intergalactic war.

Durante una misión a un cinturón de asteroide inexplorado, un VF-17 Nightmare es destruido por insectoides biomecánico alienígenas, muy poderoso y rápido, que inmediatamente comienzan su ataque sobre la flota espacial.
