本作是去年播出的『信长之棺』的完结篇，由加藤广所著的『明智左马助之恋』的改编SP，原作是围绕织田信长遗骸所展开的三部作『秀吉之枷』、『信长之棺』的第三部作品。
这是以日本历史上最大的谜团之一【本能寺之变】的直接目击者明智一族的角度所叙述的故事。
