Literary Companions

Some books stay — not just on shelves, but somewhere quieter. Somewhere closer.

These are the pages that walked beside me,
that held a light during darker hours,
that whispered truths I hadn’t yet found the words for.

Why are these companions?

  • Because they remembered me.
  • Because I found myself in the margins.
  • Because they changed the pace of my thinking.
  • Because I finished them… and wasn’t finished with them.
  • Because returning feels less like rereading and more like coming home.

Fiction or not, story or study, these are bound not just by ink — but by something deeper.

They are books I return to,
books that returned something in me,
soulbound and well-loved,
with memories nestled softly between the lines.

Time's Echo [Book] Goodreads
author: Rysa Walker Rysa Enterprises 2014 - 4
A Kindle exclusive novella, set in the world of Rysa Walker's Timebound.

Kiernan Dunne abandoned his family ties to help Kate fight the Cyrists, and he's never regretted that for one moment. But he doesn't understand why Kate can't remember that night in 1893 Chicago, when she turned back to face the killer chasing them through the smoky corridors of the World's Fair Hotel. Kate placed the CHRONOS key around his neck and made his eight year old self promise to wear it always, and that's a promise Kiernan has never broken.

When Kate suddenly vanishes after a Cyrist-engineered time shift, that hidden medallion is Kiernan's only hope for finding her. He returns to the Cyrist fold to look for clues, but his search will lead him back to the question that has haunted him for years--what really happened after he left Kate at the World's Fair Hotel?

This digital novella gives Timebound readers a glimpse at Kate in another timeline and helps set the stage for Time's Edge, the second book in The CHRONOS Files Series , coming from Skyscape in October.
Yohan Yukiya Sese Cuneta 사요한 📇: This answers a lot of questions and it helped in seeing the bigger picture of the timelines, who Other-Kate is. Who Current-Kate is. Why Kiernan remembers both Kate, and it's not because of the CHRONOS key - time is both linear and non-linear, think.

author: Rysa Walker Skyscape 2014 - 1
When Kate Pierce-Keller’s grandmother gives her a strange blue medallion and speaks of time travel, sixteen-year-old Kate assumes the old woman is delusional. But it all becomes horrifyingly real when a murder in the past destroys the foundation of Kate’s present-day life. Suddenly, that medallion is the only thing protecting Kate from blinking out of existence.

Kate learns that the 1893 killing is part of something much more sinister, and Kate’s genetic ability to time-travel makes her the only one who can stop him. Risking everything, she travels to the Chicago World’s Fair to try to prevent the killing and the chain of events that follows.

Changing the timeline comes with a personal cost, however—if Kate succeeds, the boy she loves will have no memory of her existence. And regardless of her motives, does she have the right to manipulate the fate of the entire world?
Yohan Yukiya Sese Cuneta 사요한 📇: The best time travel story I've read. I like the serious play between past, present, and future. Have to read back a couple of times to get things in sequence properly and that's a sign it's no ordinary time travel adventure. It is no easy task, time travel story is very tricky and Rysa Walker did a very good job.
Beautiful Oblivion [Book] Goodreads
author: Addison Moore Addison Moore Publishing 2013 - 10
Some people just don’t belong together, or at least that’s what the world would have them believe.

It was supposed to be just for the summer…

Reese Westfield comes from a world of old money, country clubs, cotillions, and expensive cars. She’s tired of dating Warren McCarthy just to make her father happy. Reese has long since had her eye on someone else, and this summer she’s determined to make it happen.

Growing up in Lake Loveless there has always been a strict monetary divide—there was the rest of the Lake and then there were the Waterman’s. Ace Waterman has worked for everything he has, and he doesn’t have a lot. He breaks his back doing grunt work while putting himself through college. He’s used to life passing him by.

Reese has loved Ace from afar for as long as she can remember. The summer of her freshman year she comes home with plans to land Ace in her bed at least for a few short weeks, and, if she’s lucky, forever.

Ace has loved Reese for as long as he can remember, but their friendship has never graduated beyond platonic, so when Reese comes home from her first year away and proposes the two of them have a summer fling, Ace is quick to comply. The rules: no strings, no expectations, just something hotter than the sun to set the sheets on fire.

But when their worlds collide, and neither of them is willing to admit to having true feelings, it becomes clear to Ace he’s nothing more than a dirty little secret—that the summer fling was just something meaningless to pass the time.

Reese wonders if she can ever stop trying to please her father, and it’s only through her mother’s letters that she finds the answers she truly seeks, but will they be the ones she wants to hear?

As summer draws to a close, Ace and Reese are still very much enraptured even though the time has come to douse the flame and move on—but neither one of them is prepared to leave this BEAUTIFUL OBLIVION.

Watching the Clock [Book] Goodreads
author: Christopher L. Bennett Pocket Books 2011 - 5
There’s likely no more of a thankless job in the Federation than temporal investigation. While starship explorers get to live the human adventure of traveling to other times and realities, it’s up to the dedicated agents of the Federation Department of Temporal Investigations to deal with the consequences to the timestream that the rest of the Galaxy has to live with day by day. But when history as we know it could be wiped out at any moment by time warriors from the future, misused relics of ancient races, or accident-prone starships, only the most disciplined, obsessive, and unimaginative government employees have what it takes to face the existential uncertainty of it all on a daily basis . . . and still stay sane enough to complete their assignments.

That’s where Agents Lucsly and Dulmur come in—stalwart and unflappable, these men are the Federation’s unsung anchors in a chaotic universe. Together with their colleagues in the DTI—and with the help and sometimes hindrance of Starfleet’s finest—they do what they can to keep the timestream, or at least the paperwork, as neat and orderly as they are. But when a series of escalating temporal incursions threatens to open a new front of the history-spanning Temporal Cold War in the twenty-fourth century, Agents Lucsly and Dulmur will need all their investigative skill and unbending determination to stop those who wish to rewrite the past for their own advantage, and to keep the present and the future from devolving into the kind of chaos they really, really hate.

One Magic Moment [Book] Goodreads
author: Lynn Kurland Jove / Penguin Group 2011 - 5
Medieval studies scholar Tess Alexander is thrilled for the chance to live in a medieval castle. But then a trip to the village brings her face-to-face with the owner of the local garage, who looks a great deal like the man who married her sister...800 years in the past. She's determined to remain objective about magic and destiny, but she can't help wondering about that mysterious, sword-wielding mechanic.
Yohan Yukiya Sese Cuneta 사요한 📇: One Magic Moment is the latest in the “de Piaget – MacLeod” world created by author Lynn Kurland. It is a historical romance book - and don’t dismissed it just because, the world of the de Piaget’s and MacLeod’s is full of paranormal, adventure, time travel, drama, and chivalrous knights-in-shining-armour. Kurland’s books are for all types of readers, for all fans of different genres. Exactly what got me hook, and was the bridge for me to start reading romance - particularly historical romance books. One Magic Moment is the story about Tess Alexander and John de Piaget. Published on May 3, 2011, Lynn Kurland continues the story of the Alexander sisters (which started in One Enchanted Evening) and the de Piaget brothers (numerous books to list). This is the first “latest” (in publication and timeline) book I have read in the de Piaget – MacLeod world and having read a few of the earliest stories, I felt like I missed a lot. For in OMM, a lot of the characters from previous books either made an appearance or was mentioned in passing, and I can’t help but wonder about their stories. However, that’s what I like with Kurland, her books are all stand-alone. One does not need to start from some earlier publication to grasp and get inside her creations. Whenever characters from previous stories were mentioned or made an appearance, no critical information is included that will only make the reader feel like having missed something important. In this book, the story tell of the lives of Tess Alexander – who lives in our time; and John de Piaget – who was from the 13th century. Two characters trapped in a world trying to forget their past, their pains. Tess having lost her sister to a marriage with John’s twin brother Montgomery and chose to live in 1214. And John who had a row with his father and lord of Artane castle, Rhys de Piaget; and secondly, trapped in our time, no means of going back. You can read the rest of my review here:

Yohan Yukiya Sese Cuneta 사요한 📇: ** spoiler alert ** My complete review is on my blog: Richard A. Knaak brought his expertise in dragon and fantasy story-telling from DragonLance, and he surpassed his DragonLance works with this one, which further added to the whole magic. He was able to put into words and add more detail to what you and I have seen in the game, details that only a person who is literally standing in that world can see. He was able to capture my imagination and materialize this world, a world that I have known and yet it is not; and feel what these characters felt and relate to them.
