On my wife’s birthday it has become a tradition to revel in childhood nostalgia in the shape of a 1980s movie. As the classic 1980s Footloose song video features some agile moves by a young Kevin Bacon, we were expecting a dance extravaganza. The first part of Footloose formed a pleasant trip back to the naivety and lightheartedness of many 1980s films, but way too much time was spent on mediocre, yawn-inducing drama in stead of dance scenes. And when the dance finale arrived at last, it turned out to be over in the blink of an eye. All in all, Footloose offered some enjoyable 1980s campiness, but I expected way more dance scene enjoyment.
