Dead of Night (1945)Dead of Night was a nice surprise. It’s interesting how old British thrillers tend to reasonably survive the test of time, due to ingredients like a matter-of-factly, scientific undertone that aids the believability. Another example of this is Village of the Damned (1960). Dead of Night pleasantly reminded me of The Twilight Zone series, featuring original, haunting short stories with a twist at the end. However, The Twilight Zone would premiere 14 years later, in 1959. Of course you can’t expect a thriller from 1945 to still creep out a seasoned modern-day horror viewer, but nonetheless Dead of Night features some pretty cool, even goosebumps-inducing scenes. The eerie doll scene at the end must have been an inspiration for David Lynch’s original Twin Peaks series. Last but not least, the golfer story featured some deliciously dry British humor (or 'humour' to be exact 😉). It even made me laugh out loud a few times.
