a review of 小丑回魂

It (2017)I started writing this review while It was still playing, which is a testimonial of my boredom. I was an Eighties kid, so I grew up watching movies based on Stephen King books. Most of those films were mediocre, while I think most of King's stories are good. Luckily there are exceptions when it comes to King-based film quality, such as The Shining. Ironically, that Kubrick masterpiece deviates from King's book. The new It doesn't only successfully recreate a 1980s atmosphere, it even managed to recreate the mediocrity of most 1980s Stephen King films. On top of this, ever since the irritatingly overblown Stranger Things hype started I'm allergic to hysterical smart-ass quasi-1980s kids on bikes, doing a Goonies, so to speak. And there's another bit of irony: the most annoying kid from It happens to be one of the Stranger Things kids. As the film progressed, the increasing amount of sappy 'we can defeat it if we stand together' scenes became almost unbearable for this old cynic, and I was relieved when the end arrived. The two and a half stars are mainly for the art direction and the effects.
