Friday the 13th (2009)Being the old fart that I am I've had the 'privilege' to watch a number of the original Friday the 13th films in a movie theatre when they were released in the 1980s, starting with part 3, which was in anaglyph 3D. I clearly remember the reflex to dodge Jason's machete when it seemed to stick out of the screen. I'm not going to ramble about how great the original Friday the 13th films were, because they weren't. Part 1 was okay, but I think part 2 sucked, and my recollection of the many sequels has become a bloody blur after all those years, with the exception of the 3D machete scene in part 3. So I decided to watch the 2009 remake on... yes... a Friday the 13th. Despite my low expectations it still bored me so much that I decided to combine watching it with writing this. It was no surprise that the characters were boring, shallow, superficial fist magnets. I mean... machete magnets. 😉 Jason has been working out to become a huge postmortem bodybuilder, and the plot unfolds as predictably as you'd expect: a seemingly endless, sadistic killing spree, without the campy low-budget charm of the original Friday the 13th, and without Harry Manfredini's classic "shoo shoo shoo... shah shah shah" soundtrack.
