a review of 鬼魅浮生

A Ghost Story is an intriguing, original take on traditional ghost stories. I liked the atmosphere and the cinematography, but I also have to admit that I expected to be more impressed by this highly rated film than I actually turned out to be. Especially the first half hour of the film bored me a little. I had trouble feeling for the fairly stoic, shallow main characters, and it all felt like watching a projection on the wall — atmospheric imagery served in lenghty scenes, making me feel the presence of the ghost of pretentiousness.
