a review of 极盗车神

The hype surrounding Baby Driver, and its 8+ IMDb rating raised my curiosity. Baby Driver turned out to be a fun ride, accompanied by groovy music, including classics like the brilliant Hocus Pocus by the Dutch 1970s band Focus. Baby Driver is an obvious wink to classic Rock 'n' Roll musicals, but I think Cry Baby (1990) featuring Johnny Depp is a better parody of that genre than Baby Driver. What bugged me about Baby Driver is that the film continually tries a little too hard to be cool, while the lead actor looked like your average adolescent Instagram selfie addict with meticulously styled hair. I think he lacked the true charisma needed for the role, and the film as a whole is too polished to have a real soul.
