Everything Is Illuminated (2005)A Jewish young man travels from the USA to a Ukrainian village to find a woman who saved his grandfather from the Nazis in Word War II. I find Everything is Illuminated hard to rate. I'd give the first half a seven out of ten and the second half a six out of ten. The film starts promising, with an enjoyable soundtrack, and a humorous young Ukrainian actor stealing the show, making me laugh out loud a couple of times. But in the second half the film turns into a slightly dragging melodrama that didn't grab me as it should have. Elijah Wood's constant stoic stare didn't help there either. In conclusion, I would have appreciated Everything is Illuminated more if the humorous first half would have continued.
