a review of 我行我素

Comments at IMDb compared The Chumscrubber to celebrated classics like Donnie Darko and American Beauty. That made me quite curious of course. The Chumscrubber tries hard to be a dark, edgy satire, but in my humble opinion it only moderately succeeds. I think the film lacks vibrancy and persuasiveness. There's a hint of Desperate Housewives, but without the sharp sense of humor. There are disillusioned teenagers, but without the character depth and atmosphere of Donnie Darko. There are emotions, but they failed to move me, because the characters hadn't grown on me. My final complaint is that the plot was too fragmented into different subplots, resulting in a lack of viewer involvement, at least that's what happened to me.
