The King of Comedy (1982)The King of Comedy is an unmistakable Scorsese film — sharp, witty and a great piece of satire. Jerry Lewis did a fine job playing more or less himself. Robert the Niro's character is both comical and tragical, and gives you an uncanny feeling, because you know there really are people like him: tragic people, often disturbed by a bad childhood, obsessed by a celebrity they worship, as a form of escapism. Tragic examples of this are exposed in the 2008 documentary I Think We're Alone Now, featuring obsessed fans of the 1980s singer Tiffany.
