Dead Poets Society (1989)Dead Poets Society is one of those classics I had failed to view for a lot of years. I finally corrected that in 2016. I really wanted to like the movie. Its main subjects appeal to me: poetry, romanticism, passion and rebelliousness. But what kept me from really embracing the film is the dated 1980s innocuousness. I expected more of a bite into the established order, and I was looking forward to more power from the brilliant Robin Williams. Instead, most of the film involved the relatively boring coming-of-age of a bunch of soft, aristocratic intellectuals.
