The Hidden (1987)I remember watching The Hidden as a youngster in the late 1980s, and it made a lasting impression on me. As I'm revisiting a lot of 1980s childhood nostalgia lately, this one was on my Eighties revival bucket list. I was curious if The Hidden would prove to have survived the test of time. And yes, in my humble opinion it has. I still like it very much. Kyle MacLachlan and Michael Nouri deliver convincing performances, the action scenes are thrilling, the characters are believable and the plot is fascinating, especially if you take into account that the involved subject matter was not yet a cliche in 1987. The Hidden is a relatively obscure little gem, and MacLachlan's oddball special agent character seems like a blueprint for his immortal role in Twin Peaks, three years later, which is probably no coincidence, especially not if you consider that agent MacLachlan is accompanied by policeman Michael Nouri in The Hidden, who bears a close resemblance to Sheriff Harry S. Truman (Michael Ontkean) in Twin Peaks.
