a review of 超级大坏蛋

In my humble opinion Megamind is reasonably entertaining, but misses several elements necessary for greatness. I think the character designs lack true appeal, the humor is mostly yawn-inducing, the facial expressions are a bit stiff, and the lipsync isn't very accurate. Megamind's eyes are so oversaturated, bright green that they miss the subtle gem-like depth of Pixar's eyes, resulting in the shallow glance of a toy figure. Showing off your CGI capacities in pompous city destruction scenes with lots of particle debris and volumetric smoke clouds does not suffice to leave a lasting impression. It's emotion-evoking storytelling, character appeal and character depth that really makes or breaks a film. When the end credits revealed that Ben Stiller was involved, that clarified why Megamind didn't really work for me. Somehow, nearly every film he touches seems to lack at least something.
