Zero Dark Thirty (2012)Zero Dark Thirty is not an easy film to review. Let me start by mentioning that I've been a fan of Kathryn Bigelow ever since I first saw her cult vampire movie Near Dark in the late 1980s. She proved her talent again with The Hurt Locker, and I admire her courage in taking on the challenge of covering a controversial subject like the government-approved assassination of Osama Bin Laden. I can't say how accurate Zero Dark Thirty reflects the actual events, but the most important thing to me is that the movie does not seem to glorify the chain of events that lead to the assassination of Osama Bin Laden. The movie left me with the same ambivalent feeling I had when I heard the news that Bin Laden had been killed: although it was inevitable that he had to pay for what he was partly responsible for, murder is not something to be celebrated. An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.
