Starred Up (2014)

Starred up feels so real, you forget that you're watching a movie. And by real I don't mean cramming as much chilling violence as possible in a movie's duration, as is often the case in prison flicks. Yes, there is violence, but there is also one of the most original father-son relationship build-ups I've seen in a movie. It feels a bit inappropriate to state that I 'liked' this bleak portrait of broken human lives, but I definitely recommend this gem, with top class performances by Jack O'Connell and Ben Mendelsohn.
